4.0 out of 5 stars Expensive but functionally effective
Expensive but functionally effective is my title and that is a good, brief description for this product so I am going flesh this review out with some Pros and Cons to hopefully help guide some people who might benefit from this red light therapy device.Pro: This device can produce three types of light with the lowest in the visible range around 600nm. Two more are higher and not visible with the highest over 900nm this is true Infrared radiation which penetrates deeper into the body and that is what I was needing so big plus for that.Con - Unfortunately, these three cannot be separately selected, they all energize together so you, kids or pets must take caution not to look directly into the beamsThe control interface is comprised of two buttons - on / off and intensity these are aptly described in the operators manual but positive contact is followed by an audible beep, not really confusing if you can count thru the cycle.Con - There is no other indicator of the function selected for this price point a simple LED display would be appropriateThe device is well sized for most applications, you could almost say it is a hand-held appliance but it does come with an elastic belt.Long battery life but also the time to complete a dead charge is a few hours. Best not to drain it and recharge after a couple of sessions. Uses a USB C cable which is included and easy to replace if needed. Charge status indicator is a small led.To conclude my review: This item was acquired for a family member that was in need of cold laser like these for pain management on a regular basis, to that end this device truly is beneficial and safe to use. Red light refers to the visible spectrum which is focused mostly on the skin's surface while the Near IR and Infrared penetrate into deeper layers of the skin to stimulate circulation, relieve pain and promote tissue health.Score: Four Stars at this price point the device had some lack of user control "ease of use" features that are common in inexpensive devices. Would have also liked added control to select visible OR infra-red radiations separately
3.0 out of 5 stars This could be really good, but there are some considerations
When I opened this, I wanted to like it. On the surface, it looks like a great unit. And it does feel well-built.It does supply the 3 wavelengths of red light that are generally taken as the therapeutic wavelengths, so that part is good.It is a little tricky to understand how you turn it on. The instructions that come with it are not very detailed. After you figure it out, you can probably deal with it.The power and function buttons are not really push buttons, but capacitive buttons. I was pushing them hard to get it to do something, but you really only need to lay your finger on either the raised power symbol or the raised arrow symbol. And that contact seems to need to be 2 seconds. You hear a beep every time it has taken your finger press. So, power button, 2 seconds, beep, power is on, but no red light. Then function button, two seconds, beep, lights come on. At that point, the unit is operating on red light only and will stay on for 30 minutes. Successive function button "presses" will move it through the red light with TENS levels. The TENS pads are the two silver pads on both sides. You can shut the unit off early but pressing the power button for 2 seconds again. The first major design deficiency is that there is no indicator of what level you are on. You just have to keep track of the presses. If all you need is the red light function, this isn't much of an issue. You stop pressing the function button when you see the red lights come on.A second missing nice to have is that there is no beep when the unit hits 30 minutes. It just shuts off. So, if you can't see it or if you did not set an external timer or watch the clock, you don't know when it is done.Another potential problem, depending on how you use it, is that it is flat and may not conform to your body well. Particularly if you are using the TENS function. It does have two velcro belts that will adapt to a lot of lengths. And they are elastic. It includes 3 pairs of TENS pads. I don't know how long these will last, and there do not appear to be direct replacements. But you can probably find something that will work on Bolo if you use that function. So, I don't think this is a major issue.
