Description:
"To celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the Grateful Dead's ambitious 1975 album Blues For Allah, we have produced what we feel is the most eclectic 50th anniversary reissue since this series began in 2017. The 3-disc special release features the original album on Disc 1, remastered by David Glasser at Airshow Mastering, with tape restoration and speed correction by Plangent Processes. On Disc 2, we have nearly 45 minutes of nearly-live material from August 12, 1975 at the Great American Music Hall in San Francisco, the soundcheck the day before the Dead's famous show at the venue on August 13, 1975, all mixed from the 16-track analog masters. Additionally, we have included the full Blues For Allah suite from the March 23, 1975 SNACK Benefit at Kezar Stadium, where the Dead played their first of four 1975 shows by debuting one of their most wild pieces of music they'd ever composed. Disc 3 features 75 minutes of live material recorded in June 1976 at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby, PA, on the Dead's first tour after the release of Blues For Allah, and features all five of the Blues For Allah songs the Dead were performing live at the time: "The Music Never Stopped," "Help On The Way>Slipknot!>Franklin's Tower," and "Crazy Fingers," along with a half hour of additional material from the shows. This 50th anniversary reissue is packed with three hours of studio, soundcheck, and live material. It's a reissue unlike any other, just as Blues For Allah is an album unlike any other." -David Lemieux

5.0 out of 5 stars Sand Castles And Glass Camels
The Grateful Dead recording sessions for what would become Blues For Allah began in January/February through to around July 7th, 1975. Bob Weir had a high end custom built studio in his house in Mill Valley which is also where the first Kingfish album was recorded. The album was first released on September 1st, 1975. From the smoking opening of the Help On The Way-Slipknot!->Franklin's Tower trilogy to the far out Blues For Allah suite. All in all, I'd say it's probably my favorite Grateful Dead studio album. This 50th Anniversary Edition features a new remastering of the original album on disc one while disc two includes rehearsals for The Great American Music Hall show (later released as One From The Vault) at the venue the day before. The opening Help On The Way->Slipknot!->Franklin's Tower is actually very, very good although the band stops before Franklin's ends. Next up is another run through although it sound's like somebody started the tape late as this version of Help On The Way is already in progress. We also get good run rehearsals of King Solomon's Marbles/Stronger Than Dirt Or Milkin' The Turkey, Crazy Fingers and Sage & Spirit. The second disc ends with the SNACK Benefit jam from March 23, 1975 with both Ned Lagin and Merl Saunders sitting in. The band runs through alot of the instrumental ideas that would end up on the album. This jam was one of my favorites back in my tape trading days and is just exactly perfect. This was also previously released on the Beyond Description bonus disc back in 2004. There was also a version of Showboat from the Great American Hall rehearsal on the Beyond Description bonus disc that doesn't appear here sadly probably due to time limitations. The third and final disc begins with highlights of the first two nights (June 21 and 22) of a four night run at the Tower Theatre in Upper Darby, Philadelphia. Other songs from the 21 and 22 appeared on The Download Series Volume Four and Sugaree from the 23 was released as filler on Dave's Picks Volume 28. The disc opens with The Music Never Stopped which was the show opener on the 21st. It's a cool early version and you can hear the band beginning to stretch out the song and finding it's way through the instrumental sections. Next up is a great version of Help On The Way->Slipknot!->Franklin's Tower also from the first night and it's a very strong version. From the second night we get a cool pairing of Crazy Fingers into Comes A Time and a great Eyes Of The World->Dancing In The Streets combo.
5.0 out of 5 stars Part Three of the Trilogy
The reason I bought this set is because it includes the full show from the Kezar Stadium - Snack Sunday Benefit.
5.0 out of 5 stars If you are a deadhead you will love this.
WONDERFUL!!
5.0 out of 5 stars PEAK STUDIO DEAD
While 1970's "American Beauty" will probably always be regarded as the Dead's finest studio recording, "Blues for Allah" represents the band at their most creatively inspired in that environment, more reminiscent of the experimental albums "Anthem of the Sun" (1968) and "Aoxomoxoa" (1969). Most definitely some of the best music released in 1975, yielding new discoveries with each listening, and the generous number of bonus tracks--a 1975 rehearsal and a 1976 show--are the proverbial icing on the cake. I've been a Deadhead for nearly as long as the band was together and feel confident in saying that "Blues for Allah" can be considered as essential as "Live/Dead," "Workingman's Dead," "American Beauty," and "Europe '72."

Simply superb
This is a great album and a favourite when released. The two additional live CDs are simply superb. This for me is Dead at their best - free jamming along the style of Dark Star.
