5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful watch!
This watch is simply stunning. Right out of the box, it feels special. The packaging is really cool, like a high-end presentation box than something you’d expect at this price. When I first opened it, I just kind of stared at it for a while. The dial is wild! It looks like a tiny planet rotating under glass, and the way you read the time is totally different from a normal watch. Took me about a day to figure it out, but once you get the hang of it, it actually makes sense and feels intuitive. It also keeps time well and is very accurate. The design is stunning in person. The photos online don’t really capture how the polished edges catch the light or how much depth the globe has. It’s one of those pieces people notice immediately. I’ve already had a few “what is that?” moments from friends and coworkers. Definitely more of a statement piece than a casual wear-and-forget watch.Build quality is impressive, it feels solid, not cheap at all. The sapphire crystal is super clear, and the movement runs smoothly. You can tell there was some serious thought put into the engineering. It’s a bit on the heavier side, but it sits nicely on the wrist. The strap is comfortable, though if I had to choose something I dislike about it this would be it. It doesn’t feel quite as well made as the watch itself. One other dislike I have is that it’s not the easiest to read in dim light. If you’re in a dark room, forget it. But honestly, I don't check the time every minutes. If you’re into watches that make people ask questions, this one’s a winner. It feels like wearable art. Definitely not your everyday piece, but man… it’s gorgeous.
4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Watch for Collectors
I’ve waited awhile to write a review on this CIGA Design U Series Blue Planet Ⅱ 43MM watch because I have mixed feelings about it. I understand that this is an award winning design and it truly is a beautiful watch and a beautiful piece of engineering. Here comes the “but” or however”…Even if you’ve gotten used to reading it, it’s still a bit harder to get a quick check of the time that you see from just a glance at a standard digital readout. And while the watch dial has luminous markers, they don’t really show up well enough in low light to make reading the time easy either. The watch is made of titanium, stainless steel and a tough protective sapphire crystal casing which makes me think it should be waterproof, or at least water resistant, but there’s not even information listed about that. And of course, being completely mechanical, it’s missing many of the features that are standard on today’s smart watches. In my opinion, unless you are a collector or investor, this Blue Planet Ⅱ mechanical automatic watch is highly overpriced. Maybe even a bit ostentatious.
5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome, collectable timepiece!
This new Blue Planet version is completely reconfigured down from 46mm to 43mm, yet still has plenty of wrist presence and is still very easy to read. And it has enhanced curvature and contours on the dial work, which is really cool (see photo). So it is an improved version in many respects, as well as being a more marketable 43mm in today’s watch market. I personally love the 46mm versions, but this 43mm size is intriguing–perhaps because of the dial enhancements. (See photo for a comparison of the new 43mm vs. a 46mm version).CIGA is a company that does things that other watch companies can’t–or don’t care to try. For example, the use of polished titanium cases on the newer Blue Planet timepieces....I have long wondered why more companies don’t use polished titanium–it’s lighter, stronger, and it doesn’t get the surface markings on it that regular, unpolished titanium does. It’s the ideal metal for a watch case, in my mind. Additionally, CIGA uses FKM rubber for the strap. FKM is stronger than regular silicone. It is known for being a little warmer on the skin, but somehow CIGA makes these straps as comfortable as any strap out there. In terms of the movement, there are other examples of watches out there costing well over $1,000 that use the same Miyota movement. Just off the top of my head, the Bulova Kea King uses this movement (that watch was released around 2015 and now you can't find them anywhere, even above the initial retail price). In terms of value for money, I think you are definitely getting it here.So to me this watch is somewhat bulletproof as a unique, collectible, and fun watch to wear.CIGA is a company that seems to be determined to bring new, exciting timepieces to the market, and they have really found something with this Blue Planet line. This would be a great gift idea for just about anyone. It comes in a lovely, interesting, large box/booklet that tells the story of this particular watch--in addition to the Blue Planet series as a whole.Highly recommended!
5.0 out of 5 stars THE WATCH!
The CIGA Design Blue Planet II is far more than just a watch — it feels like a work of art you can wear. From the moment you pick it up, the craftsmanship is evident. The sapphire crystal is incredibly smooth and clear, giving the dial a brilliant depth, while the ceramic and stainless steel case has a modern elegance that’s both sleek and durable. The Blue Planet dial itself is mesmerizing; it catches the light in subtle, shifting ways that draw attention and spark curiosity every time you glance at it.What truly sets this watch apart is the movement inside. Watching it in action is like seeing a miniature mechanical world at work — precise, fluid, and fascinating. Even the strap and packaging show thoughtfulness and attention to detail, making the entire experience of owning the watch feel premium and deliberate.Every time I wear the Blue Planet II, I’m reminded that a timepiece can be more than a tool for telling time. It can be functional, beautiful, and full of character, almost like a companion that adds a little more meaning to your day. It’s rare to find a watch that combines artistry, engineering, and soul in such a seamless way, and this one does it brilliantly. Every moment I check the time, I’m struck by how special it feels. I highly recommend this wonderful watch to anyone who cares about style, class and the Earth.
Stunning and unique watch
This is a review of the 43mm stainless steel blue planet IIComes safely packaged in a ciga branded shipping box that contains a high quality large book style watch box.and a gift bag. This Ciga Design blue planet II is stunning and certainly unique. The high quality of the manufacturing is clear from the moment you receive the box and as a vine reviewer i feel very lucky to receive this for review after missing out on one earlier this year and that actually led me to purchase a type c after reading about ciga receiving the GPHG award for the Blue Planet. This 43mm version in stainless steel is the "entry level" version of the blue planet II and does not have any lume which i was very disappointed to discover after contacting ciga via their website and enquiring about this and not mentioning i had the stainless steel or was a vine reviewer and i was told the 43mm version "does not have luminous function" but as can be seen from some of the larger product images half way down the page that there is an image of the titanium version with Blue Planet II 43mm title with a box that clearly says luminous markings ! and of course the image of the watch with lume in the first set of images you see at the top of the listing and even the product specifications for the steel 43mm version says "special features - glow in the dark, automatic self wind" so that's a bit misleading which is the main reason i have removed a star from my rating and perhaps i should remove 2 stars !With the 43mm version the size of the numbers on the hour and minute rings are the same small font size that was one of the issues with the original blue planet that lead to to the updated features of the 46mm version II as its quite difficult to read the time on top of the high domed crystal being very reflective but in reality this timepiece is more a statement and conversation starter than an actual watch and to be fair after a while you do get used to how the time is shown. The included fluororubber strap does feel soft and nice and uses a deployant clasp system which im not really a fan of to be honest as i do find the folding metal bracket can be a bit uncomfortable on my wrist and as the strap has standard watch strap holes, it was not a perfect fit for me on top of the strap having no ventilation, which leads it to be a very sweaty affair unfortunately and after wearing the watch for an hour and taking it off i was presented with pools of sweat on the strap so i ended up changing the strap to a stainless steel milanese strap i had in my collection but i only had a satin finish one so i have ordered a new polished steel milanese strap as the satin one does not work well with the polished case. The strap size is claimed in the product images for the 43mm version to be 22mm but its actually 20mm for the stainless steel 43mm version i have, which is another issue with this listing but at least you can use a standard flat ended strap here and the strap i used (watch gecko brand) moves smoothly and does not catch on the case. The movement of the version II is from my research a custom miyota 9 series movement which is different to the original movement in the first award winning version and is a slight downgrade but its still a very decent quality movement regardless. The price ? well that's all down to you really as to be honest i could never justify spending £1000 on a watch but if you can afford that and want a unique watch for your collection the Blue planet II is certainly worth considering.
Stunning, Unique Timepiece
Was incredibly lucky to review a BPII earlier in the year. That was titanium, which this cheaper (!) version is stainless steel. This is also slimmer and slightly smaller. It's difficult to describe, but as I'm lucky enough to be able to compare the two, it's pretty obvious when the watch is worn on the wrist. These watches from Ciga really are incredible. The attention to detail, not only from the watch but from the packaging too, is highly impressive and a lot of time and money has gone into designing these watches. From first taking the packaging out of the Bolo box the product drips with care and attention to detail. The watch itself is still pretty chunky, but looks fabulous. Because of the unique design of the watch I still struggle a little to actually tell the time with it! I've been on this planet nearly 60 years and was taught to tell the time with hands and then digitally. This is another unique way of timekeeping. I'm getting there though. The see-through case is awesome too.Obviously (well to me anyway) this isn't an everyday watch. I certainly wouldn't wear this to work or to the footy, but on occasions like family weddings, etc then this will be worn and shown off!Mightily impressive, stunning craftmanship. A truly unique watch.
Newer version
I am fortunate enough to already own a "CIGA Blue Planet II" watch and when I was offered the chance to test & review this watch I took it (because why wouldn't you?!) but honestly thought there had been a mistake and that I had been sent the same one twice. As it turns out, there was no mistake. This is a similar, albeit different version of the same watch. It is a re-issuing or updated version if you will. I'm not sure if that means the original is discontinued or still available, if you are curious you may try here and also see my review of the original if you're interested (I know you probably aren't)! - https://www.Bolo.co.uk/dp/B0DPQ7QF2K?th=1But to this watch in particular, it is just as striking and unique as it's counterpart. Here though, the main difference is one of size. The "main event" of the watch if you will, the face, the bezel and the case in this version is slightly smaller than in the original version. It is a little lighter too. Now, given that I own the original I had of course noticed the size of the original. I did find it a little on the large side, however it didn't really bother me because this is very much a special occasion watch rather than a day-to-day wear kind of watch, for me at least. I think the manufacturer must've listened to criticisms from others and reduced the size & weight accordingly. I do think it makes the watch that bit more accessible, and more likely to be worn day-to-day even though a difference of just 3mm is admittedly small.Look, I like the watch and am extremely happy to have it. If you care about such things then it is clearly an innovative, well-designed and well made watch. But that's kind of the point isn't it...'if you care'...I don't like to sit on the fence but I really think that this watch really is in the eye of the beholder. Words in my review are not going to persuade someone who doesn't like luxury or inventive watches to spend over £1000 on this I don't think. I think that if you want this you already have made up your mind. All I can do is to assure you that the build quality, attention to detail and "wow factor" are all top notch with this timepiece. My only slight word of warning would be that it has a silicone/rubber strap. That may or may not bother you. I find it comfortable when on but the first time I opened & examined my original Blue Planet II watch I was a little surprised to find the band was rubber/silicone. I guess it all comes back to the eye of the beholder. For me it is an undeniably attractive and high quality watch and I easily give it five stars.
