How to Acclimate Shrimp and Fish Safely
Proper acclimation is essential for maintaining the health of your shrimp and fish.
If a drip acclimation kit is unavailable, the following steps may be used.
1. Float the bag in the tank for 15 minutes. Ensure not to exceed this time for breathable fish bags.
2. Transfer the shrimp/fish to a small container, ensuring to remove any deceased ones.
3. Add 4 ounces of your aquarium water to the container. Repeat this process 2-3 times every 10 minutes.
4. Discard half of the water from the container and repeat step #3.
5. Carefully use a net to transfer the shrimp/fish to the aquarium.
- Coloration on Arrival: Fish, especially nano species, may look pale or less vivid at first. This is a normal stress response from shipping. Once they adjust, their colors will brighten within a few days.
- Helping Colors Shine: Darker gravel and a balanced, high-quality diet will encourage natural, vibrant coloration like the photos shown.
- Size Variations: Fish may arrive smaller than pictured. We purposely ship smaller sizes because larger fish create more waste during transit, which increases the chance of an ammonia spike—even when we follow our standard protocol of fasting before shipping. Some species also have seasonal shipping sizes.
- Growing Into Their Beauty: With proper care and patience, your fish will thrive, grow, and become even more stunning than the photos, often within just a few weeks.
