We enjoy baklava but this isn't what we are used to. It doesn't seem to be as crispy as the ones we are used to. I thought it was a great idea to personalize it by controlling the sweetness. I was disappointed that there are no directions given for what quantities of sugar and water to use to get the different results. So I guessed by using the same amount of water (1-1/2 cups) but cut the sugar from 2 cups to 1-1/2 cups. Then boiled it as specified. My husband asked if there shouldn't be honey in the syrup? That sounded right to me, so I removed half a cup of the boiled syrup, and added half a cup of honey. The flavor was better, but even more honey and less syrup would have been even better.I made the syrup and let it cool for two hours. Then I baked the baklava for the prescribed time and temperature. Poured the syrup over it and let it stand for 1-1/2 hours before trying our first pieces. It was a bit soggy. We left it in the fridge overnight, and more of the syrup had been absorbed, so it was better. Two things: It was too soggy (maybe less water next time?), and I think more nuts would have made it more tasty. We were a little disappointed.

This is high quality and delicious! It was a nice crisp. Many thin layers and a good amount of nuts. The tray it's in isn't one of the cheap thin ones so you don't need to worry about it bending or spilling. There is a plastic film around the whole thing to protect it. There is no topping on this baklava. There's an included recipe though for a traditional topping. I've experimented a bit with toppings. Baklava is very dry without a topping so you must top it with something. I have tried honey, honey and milk, maple syrup, and plan to try ice cream next. I think the key to ice cream will be letting it melt just a little bit. What I've found with maple syrup and honey is you may want to dillute it a bit so it isn't too sweet. You want to add a bit more moisture. For honey a little milk worked great. For maple syrup a little water or some sugar water works. Overall I love Baklava and this is very good even when compared to Baklava I've tried in restaurants.

This is very good looking baklava that is pre-made already. All you have to do is make the topping to give it that crispy glaze. I didn’t know the ingredients at the time of purchase so I’m unable to eat them. However my daughter will be making them this weekend for herself, and we will update the review with how she liked them. This is a large tray of baklava. Plenty for a large party. It comes without the syrup (as advertised) to preserve freshness. the syrup is easy to make and gives the baklava a nice flavor. While fresh from a local bakery is better, this is a great option.Note - open the box carefully, the instructions are on the inside of the box - I ripped them.
