After applying it though it really seems to work. I have a rather long white goatee, and the fact that this is white, I have no worries of it yellowing my beard.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, but more of a beard conditioning cream than a beard butter.

In short, this is a good beard product, but more of a beard conditioner than a beard butter, in my opinion. While it has a variety of nourishing oils, the formula is creamy and water-based formula, not buttery and oil-based like typical beard butters. Besides that, I am not in-love with the formula as there are a variety of preservatives that I don’t see in my favorite beard care products. The cream is effective however. It works much like a leave in condition does in your hair. It left my beard soft, manageable and smelling great. My beard butter was packed in a First Melody cardboard box, 2 x 2 x 4 ¼ inches. While packaging isn’t super-premium looking, it is nice enough for gifting. On the box, the ingredients were listed. I have included that list at the end of my review. My analysis of the ingredients is that the formula water-based with a mix of nourishing oils, conditioning agents, and preservatives (PEG-20 Stearate, Hydroxyacetophenone, 1,2-Hexanediol, Disodium EDTA). As I wrote above, I don’t love the formula as I am used to beard butters that are oil-based and contain few, if any preservatives. At the same time, I do see anything that is particularly harmful in this formula.Instructions are a bit curious. It says to apply the formula to your hands until dissolved, then apply to your beard. I am guessing that First Melody means to spread the cream on to your hands evenly then massage it into your beard—that is what I did. I found the white cream was effective in softening my beard and making it more manageable, but it was not a styling cream/ pomade. Any excess on my hands I rubbed into my hair, particularly my pony tail, which was left hydrated, conditioned, and shiny.I tried two versions of this product: cedar and vanilla, while they worked exactly the same to condition my beard, the fragrances were quite different. Either in the jar or on my beard the cedar scent was deep and woody, reminiscent of a cedar forrest. The vanilla scent was sweet and light with a hint of something spicy, like a vanilla cupcake with cinnamon sprinkles. Both smelled pleasant, but I much preferred the cedar which was more traditionally masculine.Overall, I think this product is good, just not great and rate it four stars for the cedar scent and three stars for the vanilla scent, which for the purpose of a combined rating I’ll round up to four stars.*Ingredients: Water, Glycerin, Biotin, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Oil, Macadamia Seed Oil Polyglyceryl-6 Esters Behenate, Palmitic Acid, Mineral Oil, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea) Butter, Argania Spinosa Kernel Oil, Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Dimethicone, Polyglycerin-10, Stearic Acid, Lauric/Myris- tic/Palmitic/Stearic Glycerides, Cedrus Atlantica Bark Oil (cedar scent only, fragrance (vanilla scent only), Glyceryl Stearate, PEG-20 Stearate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Xanthan Gum, Hydroxyacetophenone, 1,2-Hexanediol, Paraffinum Liquidum, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Disodium EDTA, Coumarin (vanilla scent only), Benzyl Salicylate (vanilla scent only), Hexyl Cinnamal (vanilla scent only).

The reason I ordered this is no longer the reason as to why I like it.I have always dealt with dry skin, and for some reason, using this product on my beard has helped immensely with the dry, itchy skin I would often get. Not to mention, on further investigation, I have noticed that I have fewer ingrown hairs on my face where my beard grows, so that's just a plus. It has helped soften the hairs as well, and they don't feel nearly as coarse as they once did. I dare say my beard even feels fuller in the hands and looks fuller in the mirror. I don't think that's a placebo, haha. It has helped me manage my beard a lot more and tame it as well. Now, like many others have mentioned about it not being a butter, I have to agree. When you think of butter, you imagine something of a semisolid that melts when heat is introduced. I have another beard butter that is in solid form and melts in your hand, and then you apply it, whereas this one is more of a cream, but it does work. You may not get the typical styling effects you may be used to with other butters, but I tend to like this one because of that. It still allows you to style it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not really beard butter, but smells good, and might be working.

Alright, so lets get this out, up front.. this is NOT beard butter. Beard butter tends to come in a thicker semi-solid, which softens up as you warm it in your hands. So, by the time you apply it into your beard/mustache it's like a thick paste. This allows some slight styling with the butter (not as much as mustache wax, however), but more importantly, the firmer starting consistency, keeps it from just being an oily mess. This stuff, conversely, starts out like a thin paste, or creme. As such, if you apply it with your hands, be aware the application consistency will be more of a liquid, at the time of application, if you let it sit in your hands, as you might with actual beard butter... and it's definitely messier than butter. But, I guess, the opposite of that, is that it's easier to comb/brush in, and clean up.So, you'll have to decide if you prefer the thicker product, or this. That said, the strong sandalwood scent is actually quite nice. It's strong, but not overpoweringly so. (apparently this comes in different scents, too.. I just happened to get the yellow/sandalwood one)The real question is.. is this actually causing my beard to grow in thicker? Enngh.. maybe. I tend to lop off my beard on a semi-regular basis, and after I do, I will often increase my intake of certain foods, and if I want the beard to grow faster, I'll take biotin supplements.I haven't done that, this time around, and it seems like the beard is growing in faster than normal. But, as with anything like this, it might be a placebo effect, too. Honestly.. I don't really know.I guess the actual question is, at approximately $10 a jar, do I find it working on par with the supplements I'd normally take?Honestly.. no.If you want to buy it, and use it as a leave in conditioner, or to help manage your beard a bit better.. cool. By all means, do so. BUT, this stuff is clearly not beard butter, and I can't see any miraculously fast growth, so I'd recommend NOT getting it just for that purpose alone.Right now, $10 for the scent and the conditioner, is a little bit on the high side, considering my 'go to' is Viking Revolutions' products, and they are on-par with the same scent, and they actually ARE a balm/butter consistency.I guess, my final review is.. yes, it smells good, and softens up the beard. But I'd suggest getting a single jar (if they have it), first, and you'll need to decide if it's worth the price. This is the first time I can honestly say, I neither recommend, nor discourage a product. *shrug*
