5.0 out of 5 stars Professional tool
This is not your average tool meant for hobbyists, though they can definitely get many benefits from it too. This is a professional tool designed for a service shop/garage. It provides reports, keeps logs, has customer information fields etc. When it arrived, it was 80% charged, which is great as it prolongs battery life. Boot time is very fast. Hitting the power button to ready to go time is about 1-2 seconds. Designed not to waste time waiting on equipment as time is money. It requires WiFi to get registration to complete and to email reports. Once connected and registered it also requires updating. There is a lot of data to update, so first time initialization will take about 30 minutes. You do not need to be present while it does its thing, just select update all and go through the prompts. It does the rest.Once updated you are ready to go. WiFi reception is a little flaky. In a shop with WiFi in the workarea you won't have problems. If however you want to check a vehicle you are probably going to have to bring it into the area where your WiFi router is or provide booster access. As an example, many shops have limited garage space, but have a lot of car park area. This unit won't be able to communicate via WiFi easily in the car park so access to the Internet for checking codes won't work. Anything that requires online access may require you to move to a better location or provide that boosted signal. As an example, I have no problems getting WiFi access with anything in my carparking area to my home. My car radio, my bluetooth, my phones etc all work. This unit is however right on the limits of reception in the same place. If there was one improvement to this I could suggest it would be better WiFi range. That would enable cars to be diagnosed out in the carpark rather than having to bring them in to the shop or require relocation or boosting of existing services. If you have good coverage already then you won't have issues.I tested this on two vehicles that had problems. I also used the Vin identification mode. It worked on the Nissan Titan, but not on a 2005 Dodge Caravan. For the latter it narrowed the field and I selected from the short list. Very simple either way. From there I did a diagnostic scan. It found faults on both vehicles and I reset them. I couldn't identify the codes description without getting Internet access.I tested the functionality of the various test modes which are very comprehensive. On the Titan the rear demister is not working. I could monitor the CAN bus and see that the switch was being detected which means that either the BCM or the relay is faulty. This is not easy to determine without such a tester and it is far easier than how it would need to be done without it. Sadly the documentation for the vehicles relay position is incorrect (vehicle manufacturer manual is the problem) so fixing it will take more time. This tool however made the process far simpler. The second issue on the vehicle was that tire changes usually never get the SAS reset. The vehicle started behaving erratically steering. I checked all the usual things but had no idea it had an SAS. So I followed the instructions to get the steering wheel straight and reset the SAS. Car no longer feels unstable on the road! When I say unstable, I mean it was really horrible, to the point it was getting dangerous. One click and the problem is gone. I also found that they didn't replace my TPS on three wheels...The Dodge was all easy fixes, just required a reset. I fixed the EGR and the fault codes stayed off.If I had these issues done in a shop it would have cost more than the price of this unit. I am very pleased with the results and the ease that I was able to do it. I am not a first time user of OBD equipment and this is by far the easiest and most comprehensive of all my previous experiences.Great for a shop and a keen hobbyist. Highly recommended.
4.0 out of 5 stars Not amazing for the price but it gets the job done
Kinda underwhelming for what I was expecting. Takes about 3 minutes to connect fully and run through all the scans whereas my cheap OBD2 takes about 30 seconds but I can actually see exactly what the code is on for. I have an ABS light and wanted to try to trigger it to turn on with this but it wouldn’t let me because of the active code which sucks it has a safety like that. You have to manually turn it on and off because it’s pretty much an Android tablet.
5.0 out of 5 stars All you need and more for the DIYer
I preform most of the maintenance work on my cars myself, unless it falls under the warranty period of our vehicles. First, there are a lot of code scanners you can buy, from cheap to really expensive. Most of the cheap ones can read a code and some can clear a code….that’s about it.Connect the scanner to your car, connect to the internet, create an account, and download the updates and you are ready to go.The Foxwell NT726 scanner itself is very well made. It has a durable plastic body that will protect it from bangs and bumps. It comes with a very nice case. On both left and right side there are two rubberized grips for better one-hand handling while you use another hand to press on controls. Best of all, it has a large touch screen that is easy to operate with mechanic's gloves on. The LCD is a 5.5-inch color screen that is easy to read even under bright sunlight. It has a long cable to connect to the car's OBDII port and then run it all the way to the engine bay so you can run the scanner diagnostics while you're working on the engine.Working with the scanner is quite simple and intuitive, it basically shows you what to do and when. When you read codes and find errors, it gives you a description and explanation of the code and, most importantly, gives you the possible cause of these codes. The scanner will tell you when you need to turn the ignition on or off to read the codes. Great for the experienced and inexperienced. This scanner has the ability to scan and clear error codes. It also has the ability to read live data, code new modules or parts, aid in bleeding ABS brakes, and works with over 100 models. You can save or export any data scans.Overall, very pleased with this bi-directional OBDII scanner. I like the ability to test individual functions of the car. if you're doing your own car repair, it's a must have tool in your garage. You can work with the screen even while wearing gloves, but you just want to check error codes and take the car to a mechanic, than a cheaper option might be your best bet.
