Reviews:
5.0 out of 5 stars So far I am happy with this drives performance and capacity.
This is what I expected. It came formatted as EXFAT which is compatible with both IOS and WIN.I reformatted it to APFS for IOS only with no issues. It is a small footprint. The USB cord they supply is about 5 inches long. I can transfer a 17.2 gig video file from my imac to this drive in 12 seconds. My Imac is 5 years old and has a solid state HD. I am using the usb-c port on the back if the imac to connect this drive to it. In the photo you will see I have the drive clamped to my Imac's stand. The stand acts as a heat sink. My goodsync program shows my transfer speeds as 780Megs a second while I was transferring material from the SSD this replaced. If I just copy and paste one file it is over 1200 megs a second. I keep the larger video files I work with on this and work right off this drive while editing. This is very small and portable. If you are doing large data transfers (over 1T at a time) It would be wise to heat sink it as it does get warm.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great SSD
Very fast, very small, and huge capacity. I'm very satisfied.
5.0 out of 5 stars Tiny speedster
Fantastic little external hard drive, it is smaller then it looks. It does get hot, but place next to a fan, no problems. Very plug and play. The speed is quick .
5.0 out of 5 stars Too Fabulous for Words
This product is exactly as I had hoped. It's small so I easily carry it in my purse. I purchased the 4TB device. I'm amazed that such a small device can store an incredible amount of data. It's also very fast in uploading documents, photos, etc. One of the best buys I've ever made.
5.0 out of 5 stars Impressive SSD
This is a great drive, and surprisingly small for 8TB. It is working flawlessly for streaming virtual instrument plugins while recording.
5.0 out of 5 stars Tiny and packs a wallop!
EDIT July 18, 2025: There is no support for USB 3.2 Gen 2x2 on Apple Computers. Windows, etc. yes. Apple's specifications for their Mac models, including those with Thunderbolt 3, Thunderbolt 4, and even the newer M-series chips (M1, M2, M3, M4), typically list support for USB 3.1 Gen 2 (up to 10Gbps) and Thunderbolt/USB4 (up to 40Gbps or higher with Thunderbolt 5). USB 3.2 Gen 2x2, which offers 20Gbps, is largely absent from their official specifications. Apple favored Thunderbolt.EDIT July 11, 2025: I still have high praise for the Crucial SSD external drive. My whole computer network and all attached drives are running cooler and faster. Although all drives [1 internal (the Fusion Drive) and 3 external (including the Crucial SSD)] are connected into the iMac motherboard, the Crucial external SSD is running macOS Sequoia [my boot drive] while the other two external drives [rotational] are being run by macOS Ventura. The synergy between all the drives is all that I could have hoped for. When I get a new iMac [maybe 2027 đ], iâm going to utilize the Crucial which should then be able to approach its full potential of 2,100Mbp/s. Because my 2017 iMac motherboard is only specified for 1,000Mbp/s, the Crucial 2TB SSD has a lot of capacity left to achieve in an updated motherboard.ORIGINAL REVIEW June 27, 2025: I have a 2017 iMac [18,2], which has the dreaded Fusion Drive. I have never hated the 1TB internal Fusion Drive, even now after such a polarizing contrast with the Crucial 2TB external SSD Drive. I still like it, however the comparison is like a night and day difference. The Crucial SSD Drive does everything smoother, more efficiently, and FASTER.Iâm still using the iMac Fusion Drive running macOS Ventura, but only as a fallback macOS due to the fact that Iâm using Open Core Legacy Patcher [OCLP] on the Crucial SSD running macOS Sequoia. Thus, I boot from the SSD Drive 10-times faster with practically no fan noises or heat issues. And all my apps run perfectly.I wish I had done this sooner.
5.0 out of 5 stars Amazingly Fast - 8TB!!! đ
5 stars âïžâïžâïžâïžâïž! Huge thanks to Crucial, Bolo, Customs, and UPS International for the âĄïž lightning-fast global shippingâI got this in just 5 days! After researching 8TB SSDs, I nearly went with Samsungâs T5 Evo but found that Crucial (U.S.) had an 8TB version at a great deal! Reviews showed Crucial was faster, and they werenât wrong! I needed to free up space on my phone, so I backed up my phone's videos (~600gb+) in just 4 hours instead of the estimated 20 hoursâperfect timing before the Guns Nâ Roses concert! đžđ€I noticed that the SSD did get warm, but a small desk fan helped. This SSD is a game-changerâthe worldâs smallest 8TB external drive, IP65-rated for dust/water, and built to survive a 3m drop. Plus, it comes with a 3-year warranty. Hope it lasts!đ€đ
4.0 out of 5 stars tiny!
this drive is half the size of my samsung 4tb (which im expanding from). im so impressed with the size.the included cord is sort of a joke, i couldnt really use it because its too short to rest the drive on anything since it just hangs from my pc tower & too close to my tablet & i dont own a laptop (which im sure was the only thing the cord would be useful for).i ended up going through all my other longer cords & discovered they were all usb2.0 except for 1.the 2.0 bottlenecks at around 40mbps, & the 3.0 cord i already had bottlenecks at approx 250mbps.i also tried c to c on my pc towers c usb. same speed as the 3.0 a usb ports (maybe even intermittenly slower).its really only gonna affect the first large migration (which took about 15 hrs).it did not seem to get overheated, but i did rest it above the pc towers overhead fans for good measure the entire time.Bolo never lets me comment on price hikes but i think they dont care if its a sale compliment-the price is what sold me, usually its $100 per terabyte, i was dreading that maybe these are defective so the company was clearing stock, that may still be the case but im keeping backups on hard disc just in case. but i paid $440 for this, & its a lot of money but its a good deal for what you get.i still reordered a 2nd one though.i really wish there was larger options. a 10tb version would be ideal for me. you can fill up ssds to capacity & on windows you always lose like 1tb (this 8tb drive only has 7.27tb usable storage, & probably .25 of that has to be clear to avoid reducing speed & allowing room for the transfer cache).
Compact Powerhouse â Perfect for Mac Time Machine Backups
As a long-time Mac user, Iâm always on the lookout for compact, high-performance storage solutions that donât compromise on reliability. The Crucial X10 Pro 6TB SSD ticks every boxâand then some.Size & Design:The first thing that struck me is just how small this drive is. Itâs genuinely pocket-sizedâroughly the size of a stack of credit cardsâbut feels solidly built with a premium aluminium shell. It doesnât get hot even after long transfers, and the textured surface offers excellent grip when handling it on the go.Performance:Using the USB-C connection with my MacBook Pro (M3), it performs flawlessly. I read it can get close to 2,000MB/s - all I know is that as a time machine device it is plenty fast enough. For a portable SSD of this size, thatâs impressive.Time Machine Compatibility:I use this as my dedicated Time Machine backup drive. Setup was seamlessâmacOS recognised it instantly, and backups run smoothly in the background with no interruptions. The 6TB capacity means I can retain months of backups without worrying about space.Portability:Itâs small enough to live in my laptop bag permanently. Compared to older HDDs Iâve used for Time Machine, this is a total game changer in both speed and size. Thereâs no noise, no spin-up delaysâjust instant access.Other Notes:Comes with a short, high-quality USB-C cable.Backwards compatible with USB-A (adapter not included).IP55-rated for dust and water resistance, which is a bonus if you travel frequently.Verdict:The Crucial X10 Pro 6TB is ideal for creatives, professionals, or anyone needing fast, portable storage. Its combination of compact size, high capacity, and solid performance makes it a top-tier choice. If youâre a Mac user looking for a reliable Time Machine backup drive that wonât take up desk space, this is it.
Good quality, average speed
Data transfer speed is around 400-500mbps instead of what is advertised on the product.
Fast and high capacity
Small, very small! And definitely fast! Does keep its promises⊠at least till now
Works as expected
Was a day or two late, but arrived in good condition. The drive works well. Much faster than my Samsung T5 and 7 and doesn't heat up like many other fast drives
