The unit is easy to assemble, though the box is heavy from the weight of the stand, so one may need assistance with moving it and assembling it. The base and the bars are very sturdy, and it stays in place nicely during use. It Is easy to adjust the handles to the desired height. The grip at the ends of the handles are comfortable and helpful when in use.

There are several things that I like about this standing aid. There is some flexibility in how far apart the handles are, based on where the base attachment screws are fastened. (I put them at the closer distance). The base is solid and heavy and the U-shaped attachments allow for various bar heights which are easily adjustable. The thing I don’t like is that, when in use, the device is simply in the way. It would undoubtedly work better on a single chair, since it limits how many people can comfortably sit on a couch. Also, it really does stick out, as opposed to being something that you can slide deeper under the couch and therefore out of sight. But overall and based on its high quality and durability, I think it would be great placed under a single-occupant chair. The bars definitely help to give the leverage needed for someone who has difficulty going from sit to stand.

This couch assist is very heavy duty, it will definitely stay in place while using. It was easy to assemble but I did have to get help to move it to my husband’s chair.

This is a heavy duty stand assist device. It's pretty easy to put together and you could do it by yourself if you can lift heavier objects. The bottom is a heavy piece of metal you screw the handles in to. The handles are adjustable for shorter or taller positions. You can also have the handles at two different levels. The base has two options for the handle width. It is pretty stable and did not tip or slip at all for us. This is meant to stay in one place and would not be easily moved about by someone who needs a stand assist.

This lift assist is just what I needed to help my mom. She loves that it helps her get up herself without needing assistance from us here at home. It is oversized and slides right under our couch and recliner. It was super easy to put together. No extra tools needed. It is sturdy and it should last a good while.

When building the THOOUM Heavy Duty Couch Stand Assist it is possible to screw the vertical supports down in the wrong direction. Only 1 of the 3 possible orientations is correct. The grab bar height is easy to adjust with the D-rings. The vertical support width is not. Make sure you have the supports where you need them before installing the screws.If the yellow end of the grab bar has come off like mine did, make sure the black plastic sleeve insert is on the bar before screwing the yellow plate back on. Also, when sliding the grab bar and its black sleeve into the vertical support, be careful the black plastic is rotated so it does not block the top D-ring holes.After the build is complete, the grab bars are still a little loose and rock side to side. This can make getting up a bit unsteady. The user will also need some upper arm strength to use the stand assist. I found the lower the grab bars are, the less upper arm strength is needed.This baseplate is wide and may not be suitable for all easy chairs since it can hit against the chair legs. For the same reason, it cannot be used in the corner of a coach. The chair or coach legs can be placed on top of the baseplate, but this will probably make the furniture rock without adjusting the other legs. The baseplate is wide enough to go around a toilet, but be careful not to hit and crack the porcelain.The stand is wide and heavy at 30+ pounds, so you may want to build it in the same room you plan on using it.
