It has been a gift for my nephew who is involved in creating website marketing material for small food companies.He has better equipment to carry with him in large projects but I thought that this would be good to have for trying things out at home. He has used and liked the product for functional versatility and quality of materials. Found it easy to use; liked the versatility of the remote and the overall lighting results. The one star is lost in some details of construction where there is plastic instead of metal which make the small size and portability less relevant as one needs to worry about potential breakage.

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Rocky (yes, me 🙋‍♀️) who thought the overhead light in her room was enough to make YouTube nail and hair videos sparkle. Spoiler: it wasn’t. After rewatching some of my older videos on my channel, Nails by Rocky, I realized my beautiful nail art sometimes looked like it was hiding in the shadows. Not exactly the vibe.So after putting it off (because, hello, I’m not a paid YouTuber—yet!—this is still my hobby), I finally caved and grabbed this lighting kit. And wow… it was like switching from VHS to HD.Setup was super simple—even for someone new to recording and editing like me. The tripod is sturdy, easy to adjust, and the softbox head moves wherever I need it, which is perfect for filming close-ups of nails or hair. The light itself? Chef’s kiss. Three color settings (warm, natural, cold) and brightness that I can dial up or down, so no more awkward shadows stealing the spotlight. I didn’t even know how much I needed that remote control until I had it—now I can adjust the lighting mid-recording without crawling out of frame.The size is great too—16"x16" is compact enough for my little filming space but still throws off that soft, even glow that makes everything look polished. And the carrying bag makes it easy to store away when I’m not filming.If you’re like me and hesitant to spend money on gear because you’re just starting out, this is the perfect middle ground: affordable, user-friendly, and makes your content look instantly more professional. I seriously wish I hadn’t waited so long to upgrade.So if you’re sitting there debating whether your ceiling light is “good enough”—trust me, it’s not. This light kit is for amateurs only, but I guess the price should have told you that.Everything works:– The stand is strong and stable, but with a lot of plastic parts– The softbox uses what appears to be the same reflective inner surface as "real" ones– The remote has a wide range of dimming and color temperature settings, and a few preset options, plus on/off. Two AAA batteries NOT included.But here is where it doesn't do well:– The power cable is ultra thin. Probably fine since you'll be pulling very little power to a single LED lamp, but for a piece of working gear it feels too easy to break if you plan to move this thing around much.– The point of a softbox is to give you a single, large, soft light source, hence the reflective enclosure. On something of this shape, what they normally do is point the lamp INWARD, so you only get reflected light bouncing out. Or there is a second reflector between the lamp and the face, so you get a double bounce, resulting in that single soft source that makes people and things more attractive. What they've done here is point the lamp straight out the front, but added diffusion to the lamp and a silk on the softbox. It will work in a pinch, but it's not really doing what it's meant to do. Instead you get a fairly small light source with a hot spot.– Not very portable. They provide a carrying bag, but it's extremely flimsy and at least twice a big as it needs to be, which means everything will bounce around in there. AND, you can't leave it assembled when you pack it. The softbox collapses nicely, but you have to take the lamp out to collapse it, and then where do you put the lamp if you want to pack it up? For now I've put the lamp back in the cardboard box it came in, but that's not a long-term solution for taking this thing on a remote gig. On a professional softbox, you can collapse the box and leave the lamp inside ... which saves setup time and protects the bulb in transit.Bottom line, if you're just getting started and want something better than a ring light for your face, this might fit the bill. But don't plan on packing it up for remote shoots. This will work best as an emergency extra little fill light that stays built in the studio, not moved much, and just turned on when you need it.

This is a really nice lightbox that surprised me in a couple of ways. The light quality is very nice and the diffuser works well. Included is a nice high quality light bulb as well as a remote and bag. Surprisingly, I was able to assemble the whole thing without even reading the manual. Although there is an app and remote, I was delighted to find that you can control it with a one button remote. Turning it on and off cycles through the various light temperatures so this is a great light box for travel. On the downside, its a little on the short side and not made of the heaviest duty material. Still two of these would serve most people really well.
