Description:
Nicolas Cage (Face/Off, Con Air, National Treasure) and Elisabeth Shue (The Karate Kid, Adventures in Babysitting, Back to the Future Part II) deliver unforgettable performances in Leaving Las Vegas, a profoundly moving love story that appeared on over 100 10 Best lists in 1995 and was Roger Ebert's pick for Best Film of the Year. Cage's signature role earned him the Academy Award for Best Actor, while Shue received a nomination for Best Actress, and director Mike Figgis (Internal Affairs, Timecode) was nominated for Best Director and Best Screenplay. Ben Sanderson, a self-destructive alcoholic Hollywood screenwriter, has lost everything. Severing all ties to his former life in Los Angeles, he heads to Las Vegas with one goal: to drink himself to death. There, he meets Sera, a beautiful but jaded prostitute. Drawn together by an unspoken pact of acceptance and respect, their unlikely bond reshapes their lives in ways neither could foresee. Rounding out the cast are Julian Sands (A Room with a View, Warlock, Arachnophobia), Richard Lewis (TV's Curb Your Enthusiasm, Robin Hood: Men in Tights), Steven Weber (TV's Wings, Single White Female, The Shining), Laurie Metcalf (Lady Bird, TV's Roseanne), Valeria Golino (Rain Man, Hot Shots!), Emily Procter (TV's CSI: Miami, The West Wing), and French Stewart (TV's 3rd Rock from the Sun, Stargate). This release features the uncut, unrated version, including explicit footage not seen in theaters, and also provides the original Academy Award-winning R-rated cut as a bonus feature. Academy Award is the registered trademark and service mark of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

1.0 out of 5 stars A Bad Experience
This DVD was sent from Great Britain. When it arrived my wife and I went to watch it. It would not play in my DVD player. My player was displaying a message that the DVD was from region 2. Apparently DVD players in the United States are programmed to play DVD's from region 1. When I went to return the DVD my local Post Office informed me that because it was going back to Great Britain it would have to go through customs. The postage ended up costing me 15.00 to return this DVD. Almost as much as the DVD itself. It ended up being a total loss for me.

That Could Have Been Me
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } As someone who has suffered alcohol addiction after my marriage breakdown I tried to do what Ben does in this film I tried to drink myself to death. So this film really hit a nerve with me, I had black outs , morning shakes, muscle spasms ,no appetite and many other things that I am not proud of. I was lucky I pulled back from the brink and have with medical help been dry for fifteen years. Ben did not want to be saved and the film plays out a very sad ending for him. This film is not all sad it does have some funny moments ,but it will be an eye opener [no pun intended] for a lot people. Nicolas Cage is amazing as is his on/off girlfriend Elisabeth Shue who plays Sara a hooker by night and also takes some very hard knocks in her life.
Warning
Region locked doesn't work in Canada.
Great quality for money.
Of course,it's just a standard Blu-Ray,not a 4K Blu-Ray disc, not some "Ultimate Edition",with plenty of bonuses and the best possible sound and music.Just as I know,a 4K Blu-Ray is not available right nowand for the standard Blu-Ray,that quality is more than enough for the most people. It's a shame, because it's a great movieand both;Nicolas Cage (Oscar)and Elizabeth Shue, played their roles absolutely perfectly. But, if you like this film, you won't be disappointed.
