Xenoblade Definitive version:If you want to speed Mech or Skell in game Control+F this page and search License or Skell. For reference a Skell is a Mech they mean the same thing. It is under game tips. This review is based on a mix between a review of the game, and how to make the game better, plus a wishlist of what would make the game better, and may update it as I find new things.===If you don't want to READ, skip to the end for synopsis===I've played through the game and can point out the problems already in the definitive edition--This isn't the definitive edition, just a better version of the game. I would have liked these features simply for completion. Here's a list off the top of my head from someone with over 35,000 hours playing this game on Wii-UBy the way, the Japanese Wii U version of this game has all the uncensored content, but they censored it on Switch for all region versions of the game. Here is the list that would make the game better: [Note: Not in any order]======================--Boob slider in character creation screen doesn't exist. It did in the Wii-U Japanese game.--The ability to SAVE equipment sets both normal, Mech/Skell, and Fashion sets.--Idle banter with your party outside of battle.--A Special move button to perform a full screen long special move.--More cool new mechs like those from Xenogears, we do get a few new cool ones I believe it was 2 with 4 new secret characters, and new storyline and what I read was a new area in the sky, don't quote me on that I haven't got there yet.--Secret characters like Kosmos, Telos, Mythra, Pyra join the party. If you can have kosmos and Telos in Xenoblade Chronicles 2, you can get them for X as well without any copyright problems. You can however duplicate Mythra and Pyra's hair in the character creation screen.--Let us change upgrades around of weapons and armor, incase we make mistake.--A tick next to bought weapons/armor in the shop to indicate I bought it, or at least quantity I have in my inventory, so I don't buy the same gear twice to use for fashion menu.--Unlock all the hairs for whatever base model and have more customizable options.--A few more normal and boss battle tracks, it only has 2+Overdrive tune for the most part in the entire overworld map.--Let us change the music played in the city map with anything in game!--Lin can't wear any swimming costumes, and it looks weird wearing it over armor. (Side note, get your head out of thegutter lol we're not talking about nude costumes for young ones in the game) This is about realism, and everyoneneeds specific swim gear for their body type, EG/ Young characters should use appropriate swimming costumes, whilst the adults wearing adult bikinis etc… which is present in the game. The way they did it, swimming costume over armor for Lin, is plain stupid. We need to understand this is a game and Xenoblade chronicles 3 has managed to pull this off with Sena a female character in the 3rd game, so why not X?<<This swimsuit wasn't censored in the Wii-U Japanese game.--Auto walk it only has auto run and auto sprint. We use auto walk to make videos to upload without needing to hold the analogue stick. It's all about style.--Online mode used to be free, now it's membership pay only. I guess I can live with this, but for an old game it should be free. Side note, if the servers shutdown, you won't even receive anymore offline content that comes from the game online. So it will stiff you with gear you cannot receive anymore, but this is down to Nintendo and whether they will update the game to allow offline acquisition of these tickets that can then be used to buy materials to build skell parts or make outfits is unknown right now.--I feel like in the original the rain effected of textures on the skin and body of characters when it's raining is poor to say the least, compared with the Wii-U version which looks like your character is wet in the rain, but in the definitive version it's not and is a huge let-down.--FASHION your weapons! It needs this badly, some weapons are unique. It needs it for Skell weapons and armor too. Skell is your giant mech you can eventually build and buy and upgrade, you can transform into a car to drive, run with the mech, or fly with it like a plane in the sky.--You CANNOT Fight in the water of the game (on foot), they should have enabled water fights. You could fight in thewater in other Xenoblade games, but not this one, this means you either run away from enemies in the sea, or some can catch you and kill you and there's nothing you can do about it but die in game.--Would be crazy good if they updated the game and created an underwater city, exploration, travel, fights and morequests in the sea.--Cannot preview equipment on a model in inventory screen for armor/weapons/skell stuff or after winning them from drops menu. This would have made it easier to determine what was new for fashion gear.--Can you fashion Skell gear? Weapons and armor? If not, they should have that. I haven't got my skell yet you get that from progressing the storyline, and may take over 150 hours to get one if you like exploring on foot like me.-- A target Nearby enemies button, currently the target cycles all only.--Be able to increase level to 999 and have high level enemies to prolong the fun, or at least let you de-level from99-1 if the game is too easy for some and want to make it more challenging. The original game on wii-U had a lvl 60 cap, this DE version has a level99 they say, I think a level 99 cap is boring and weak for a game of this large scale, it's so big it makes Zelda breath of the wild look small.--Add the uncensored content such as bandages armor, dialogues that have been butchered, and every other censored item IE/[BooB slider in character creation screen] as a download patch on Nintendo store, this was all present in the Japanese Wii-U version of the game. ===Doing so will result in an instant 5/5===A definitive edition means complete with everything that you would want from the original game. It should not be called definitive edition if it's missing content or censored the content for a re-release.Definitive means:An authoritative version of the work, usually issued after thecreators' death, that establishes among variants the form the editor believes to represent the author's intentions. What this means is the creator of Xenoblade Chronicles X made the OG in the Japanese release of the game, he was in charge, and he left the armor bandages, dialogue and the boob slider intact, and everything was uncut and uncensored. This means his work to be definitive it has to contain all his OG work to the creators intentions, and without modifications such as censorship etc... Without that, you cannot call it the Definitive edition. Anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't know what they are talking about. What was done must be set in stone, and needs to be replicated without alterations. But of course make it just with better graphics as a minimum standard, to call it a [TRUE definitive edition].===Game Tips===--You can emote by pressing and holding L and up on the D-pad. Wish all emotes had sound, though. I believe this might have been a hidden feature that wasn't explained properly early in game.--Thoughroughly check your game settings options, which influence the game heavily.--Stay away from enemies that are in red or purple, they will 1-2 shot you unless you're strong enough or have a good mech. Some yellow enemies are very strong as well. Anything white on enemies names should be easy. Or lastly you cheat with the overdrive hack, just google that.--Some missions require you to buy or have specific weapons in order to use on enemies before they can be completed, and other missions require certain time of day, pressing ZR to check details of missions to see what is required.--(You can also change the time of day in your settings menu).--Talk to everyone twice, inquire and discuss every chapter, there's always new things to find from conversations like missions and then some, also there are secret missions found just by walking at areas in the main city.--Pressing L + either A B X Y during batte is a shortcut for ordering party members, you can hold L to see the list, but pressing it from memory is instant, and In the game settings menu if you have set orders to remember, it remembers it until you either die in battle, or reboot the game.--Right analogue stick in during battle, forces camera to automatically move to the enemy, allowing hands free for using skills and moving.===========Skell MECH License===========--What you all been waiting for SKELL License, you can only get this after completing chapter 6, there is a mission in the mission board called Skell License get that mission and complete it if you want a skell fast.======================If you've read this far, congratulations! You're amazing are you using auras? Sorry in game pun joke lol.If they can't even fix the simplest of things such as better water textures on characters and skells that were present in the Wii U version of the game, (older hardware) then this game in no way can be called the Definitive edition. At the very least, they should have included this list below to call it an updated, definitive edition of the game.--Water textures on characters when it's raining or in the sea, and coming out of water. [There are no raindrops off your character and the switch can handle it].--Auto walk this doesn't work if you walk then auto with R + B it did in the original. It just jogs or runs now.--Character customization unlock it all for any base model, and add all the customization styles back from the original game that were present on Wii-U.--All the uncensored content released as a patch on store, the ones from the Japanese version of the Wii-U game.--Fashion change for weapons on foot, skell weapons and skell armor.--Needs the ability to turn off just the New LA city music, or let me change it to whatever I want in game. The game should also have battle music tracks from all the previous Xenoblade games, as this so-called definitive edition is actually a mix between remaster and remake. As they added new content in the sky.--Regarding having a few new battle and boss music tracks and let me choose the frequency when they play like smash brothers ultimate has.--Let me change the size of the UI of the game, it's currently way too big.--Difficulty level to make the game harder, overdrive breaks the game.--Max Level to 999 up from 99 and let you de-level anytime for challenge, and well why not since the other Xenoblade games did the same thing regarding de-leveling.Now I don't like to brag, but yes I have ranked over 35,000 hours in the Wii-U edition of this game with almost 99 of every single material item in the entire game, from the reward shop, and a max capacity of 999 items in all armor equipment sections, it took me years maybe 8, so I do know what I'm talking about, don't listen to anyone else who thinks they know better I'm the worlds no1 Xenoblade Chronicles X fan lol. Of course there are more things that could make this game better, I just gave what was on the top of my head with a lot of edits to fix spelling etc....[What I have noticed in the Nintendo Switch version called Definitive Edition is that they limited the amount of items you can carry compared to the Wii-U release, although they did increase level to 99 up from 60. Still not enough for me I want level 999 and max 4,000 slots each section per equipment limits.]======================P.SA little help with how to play the Xenoblade games in order as well:======================1- Xenoblade c1 definitive edition2- Xenoblade Chronicles X definitive edition3: Xenoblade c2 >Then DLC- Torna the golden country.4: Xenoblade c3 >Then DLC- future redeemed. Future redeemed being the final game you should play. Why? Because in X Elma [who is a character in Xenoblade chronicles X] appears in Xenoblade 2 as a cameo, in the secret dimension portal. What this does is hypes up the secret character acquisition even more knowing you know who Elma is, and that's the timeline order as well to play these games. Also, why for the DLC? Because the DLC is hyped up more when you play it after the base game. Especially the music, as well Elma brings the music of Xenoblade X to Xenoblade 2 which makes it all the more hype.I hope this review helps a lot of people, I love this game even though it is censored, but I cannot give this a 5/5 because it only deserves a great 4/5 Nearly perfect, but not definitive edition. However, this is the best game on the Nintendo Switch and Wii-U. It is a must-play for any JRPG fan.Editing this review as I play further to post what I find annoying or good.======================Thus far 1500+ hours in the Definitive edition.Pros:---Great Graphics, best Graphics I've seen on the Nintendo Switch, probably the best game on switch too.---Great Music <Although there are mainly for the most part of the game 2 battle tracks both are perfect, if memory serves during the story there are some more battle tracks, but you won't hear them again in the open world.---Exploration and fighting what you can do is better than monster hunter games.---Map system is easy to navigate when you get used to it, and it's easy to access with the Y button, with options to tag parts of the map and navigation in game is helpful when you press R + X shooting a ball that trails along the path showing you where to go on your mission destination with a 95-98% accurancy.---You're able to fashion your outfits the moment you pickup an armor or clothing it saves it in memory, so even if you sell the item you can still fashion it to your character, and use that fashion to upload online so other players can use your character, and if they use your toon you will receive items as a reward. So make your character look cool!---So many missions that keep you going past the end of the main storyline, they keep you going for 500+ hours.======================Cons:---Game Music: The main town city can get very annoying after a while, and you spend many hours there as well, it's a good thing you can mute the music in this game just for the city bit I turn my music off lol. You couldn't mute the music on the Wii-U version.---You can only save the game 3 slots.---Keep on occasion getting disconnected from server on RJ45 Ethernet cable? You will get Disconnected from online if you press home key to check anything in shop or gallery, this is very annoying, on the Wii-U version I only got d/c from server for the most part only when the servers are on maintenance.---I found out that dialogue in the game is also censored, and butchered from the Japanese release, just google it and you will see a video of it on YouTube.---Overdrive mode breaks the g ame as there can be no limits, when you use offensive stance with high TP boosting skills and equips, you could overclock any enemy in the game and go from level say 30 to 60 way too easy and obliterate anything in your path. To counter this they should add higher difficulty option where you can level to 999 some enemies are 1000-1020 and they have way more hp and do way more damage.Next make overdrive reduce your defence + healing + damage the longer you use it for, so even during overdrive enemies that are much higher than you could one-three shot you if you try to scam it and do incredible damage to enemies and boss's.Balancing whether or not you should spam overdrive to get your dps in, if you know the longer you use it for you get reduction in positives. Then you can only pop overdrive for a short while to rip high portions of hp off enemies. Let's all realise having a giant mech should be more beneficial to fighting larger enemies, instead of cheesing them all on foot.Making Skells (Mechs you fly around in) the goto secret weapon for beating big bosses in the game. [What] they currently did to this [game] is made is so if you find this overdrive exploit [on foot], you don't need skells to beat any enemies in the game.----Main storyline is way too short------Sadly you cannot fashion weapons on foot, skell weapons, or skell apperance. You would think technically this game is a remake enhanced version, as they added new content at the end of the game, this automatically makes the game a remake, so why copy parts of the Wii-U version and not let you fashion weapons on foot? or Weapons of skells? At the very least, and let you maybe customize how your skell (mech) looks, that way you can make it look like Xenogears or something cooler than what it looks like right now.You only need to compare it to Xenogears to know Xenogears has cooler looking Skells aka Mechs.---Online mode is not very good, you do short missions, you level fast, would think they would updated this to be long dungeons or something. [It is better as a single player game]. Online mode is better just to fight an infinite dragon which gives you a lot of reward items to be then exchanged for precious materials to build up your outfits, weapons and skells.---If you die in game, or load up save data, you lose all your TP which is used for skills, you have to gain it back up, I found that annoying.Synopsis End:----------------If you like JRPG's get this it's a great game trust me. Just as long as you know the truth, it's been dialogue butchered from the Wii-U Japanese release, which is completely different dialogue, also censored bandange outfit, censored a characters swimsuit, and removed the boob slider in character creation screen, and removed hairstyles and made them hidden to base models, and does not have any decent rain/water textures on your characters and skells which looked better on the Wii-U version. You cannot fight in the sea [on foot], and skills performed near the water disappear as you swim, this gets very annoying when fighting enemies near the sea. There are a lot of ups and downs to this Definitive edition as it's missing content that is present in the Wii-U Japanese release, in my expert opinion, this is not the definitive edition and should be called updated edition. If Nintnedo/Monolithsoft want to fix this, they can give us an update for those of us that want this game fully based on the Wii-U Japanese release, and include better water/rain textures, and my wishlist way above this review, I would then respect them for that with a 5/5.P.SHere's a photo with capped time years before I stopped playing it on the Wii-U. Also if you don't like JRPG's you may not enjoy this game, it can get technical, does have suggestive themes, cool and some sexy armor, and isn't really appropriate for all ages, but having said that the younger audience wouldn't like this game it is too complicated to get into, but this game is more catered towards late teens to adults because of it's complexity with everything, the more missions and progress you make in the game, the more complicated the maps and game mechanics get.Age Rating- 15+ I don't know what PEGI are thinking putting it as 12. My niece is 13 and likes this game but doesn't want to play it. I didn't show her the bad bits in the game. Why I came up with that? It's because in game it has elements of suicide, death, and some sexy outfits and suggestive themes for alcohol and other content, so If I had a 12 year old kid I wouldn't subject them to this material, that's why I play it as a single player experience, well that and the online mode totally sucks, is boring and over too quickly, and you gain levels way too fast online, so when you play the offline content you cheese through it all, as your way higher level for the story and missions, it ruins the fun.Final comment=I broke Bolo's 20,000 characters limit for this review lol.

Awesome game that got delivered in perfect conditions. Approved!

One of the best JRPGs EVER.

INCREDIBLE game! I'd only played XB2 before this and it didn't really click with me. This one, with its MMO type gameplay and gorgeous sprawling, diverse open world feels just right. Being an RPG fan, this is easily one of my top 5 games of all time.

Prepare to invest a lot of time into this game

    J.M. · April 22, 2025

I love this game. I was late to the Xenoblade games but can honestly say it is my favourite one. The world and graphics for switch is beautiful. I really found the story and characters engaging and the gameplay really fun. This game will take you over the 100 hour mark easily so does require a bit of time investing. My advice is take your time don’t rush through the story as the side mission are really engaging and really makes the world believable with the multiple views of the current situation in the story is in. My other recommendation is to have a side game to play when it gets to much things to prevent what I call the exnoblade burnout. However this is a masterpiece of a game and I am not looking forward to once I complete it and have to find a new game to play

A lot of excitement and gameplay, well worth the price

    K. · May 26, 2025

I almost gave up on this one in the first few hours, it has an unusual group combat system which proved quite confusing to access, along with a rather bad big budget Hollywood science fiction back story (space aliens destroy the Earth blah blah)... However, once over the initial hurdles it is an exciting world to explore. It paces everything so well, in that you continually feel challenged even as you get stronger (a lot of the game is knowing not to get involved in combat in the first place), and as you progress you get big jumps in the narrative and gameplay that renews your enthusiasm. Highly recommended. The game can be played as a straightforward open world combat game but if you do that you miss a lot of the game, it is very much also a strategy game in that you have to maintain your team's skills and weapons (I kind of figured I only needed to do it for myself until I chanced on it when I was level 30!) and build relationships with other characters. There is a good 2-3 months worth of gameplay here, and while it could be completed quicker you will miss out on what makes this game special. The final chapter seems a bit of an add-on to the main game that is a bit tedious (new final boss cosmic super villain) but you will still want to complete it and enjoy that last bit...
