How to mix different soap bases?
- Cut & weigh – Chop bases into small chunks and measure your desired ratio (e.g., 50/50 or 70/30).
- Melt separately – Melt each base in separate containers using low heat (microwave or double boiler).
- Combine – Pour one melted base into the other while stirring gently and continuously.
- Customize – Once combined and slightly cooled, add colors, fragrances, or other additives.
- Pour & set – Pour into molds and let cool for 24 hours before unmolding.
Tips:
- Keep temperatures similar when combining to avoid seizing.
- Avoid overheating – can cause separation or cloudiness.
- Stir gently to prevent air bubbles.
Suggested blends:
- 50% glycerin + 50% aloe – soothing and hydrating
- 60% glycerin + 40% oatmeal – gentle exfoliation
- 50% glycerin + 50% shea butter – deep moisture
How to mix mica with soap base?
- Cut – Chop base into 1–2 inch chunks for even melting.
- Melt – Heat in 30-sec microwave bursts (or double boiler), stirring between, until fully melted.
- Prepare mica – Mix mica powder with a small amount of alcohol or lightweight oil to form a smooth paste (prevents clumping).
- Add – When melted base cools to 125–130°F, stir in the mica paste continuously for 1–2 minutes until color is uniform.
- Pour – Pour into molds before it sets (hardens in 2–4 hours).
Tips: Use roughly a pinch of mica per small batch. If it starts to set before pouring, reheat in 10-second bursts. Avoid overmixing to prevent bubbles.
