This drawing robot comes with 2 drawing pens and many drawing cards for the device itself, as well as 12 markers for kids to color with. Unfortunately, despite following the directions for charging and use, the device would not turn on or work at all. This is unfortunate as in theory it seems like a fun product that our children were excited to try.

The robot arrived quickly and well packaged. The instructions were a bit confusing at first. This is obviously a Chinese manufactured toy, even the voice pronounces the items in Chinese, then English, but the translation in the instructions is a bit spotty in places. For example, they use the term “short press” not “quick press”. Maybe it’s just me, but it took a couple of tries to get it to turn on. Also, the buttons don’t always immediately respond making the trial and error approach to reading the instructions trickier. The robot’s programmed drawing instructions are impressive. I use a di-cut machine and I assume the programming is similar. There are 96 cards in the categories: animals, plants, foods, circles, and vehicles. Most of the subjects are universal, but I couldn’t tell my granddaughter what a pitaya was. There are other cards with similar cultural differences, but could be teaching moments. I guess. The drawings are fairly simplistic but are easily identifiable. At first, my 6 year old granddaughter and I watched the robot draw and then she colored the pictures. After a while, she drew as the robot drew, copying its steps. It is a slow process but just right for kids to keep up. While the music was cute, I found it a bit annoying after a while. There are 3 sound modes: singing, music only and silent. It would be helpful if there was a volume control, but there is not. My granddaughter thought the music was fine. Also, the words used to encourage and compliment the learner is off in terms of English phrasing. Again, an interpretation issue. I did explain to GD that it was from another country and she thought it was cute. After a while she got bored with just drawing, so we spread out the cards and she picked images that could be drawn together to make a larger picture, a sun in the sky shining on flowers with a snake hiding. I’m not sure older kids would stay tuned in after the initial novelty of watching the robot wore off.

This robot is fun, the color is nice and it can really draw. However, the scary face is not impressive nor is it fun. The robot malfunctions at times and draws the wrong thing. Finally, the most frustrating thing is the lack of educational cards. Overall not too bad, but for the price tag I expected more.
