5.0 out of 5 stars Works well.
Worked well -- used to drill a hole in our stainless steel sink for a soap dispenser. Loud (and smoky) but got the job done neatly.
4.0 out of 5 stars The perfet thing for some jobs & nothing like it
I have an older Weber kettle barbecue and a Weber Smokey Mountain Cooker from back before they had thermometers built into them, and for some things, you really do need that, They had some you could buy and install and I was thinking of doing that, but then they created the thermoprobes with transmitters to talk to smart phones- it was getting hard to contantly be going in and out to check the cooking , so I bought a nice one- not cheap, but the lids of both cookers sit right down on the wires to the probes unless you find a way to deal with that- well Bolo had a way- a nice little set of grommets to install for the lead wires to pass through..Installing then involves cutting the right-sized holes in those fairly heavy metal lids which are slightly rounded- now a regular hole cutter comes to mind, but not so easy to use with a rounded surface and get a nice evenly rounded hole with no skittering of the cutter..A handy little drill bit which 'steps' from 1/4 to 1 3/8 inch is just exactly what can do the job. That is what we have here. I cannot say how well this particular bit will hold up to use, but step drills are usually not used a whole lot- although one like this can be used in place of any bit from 1/4 to 1 3/8 inches if you are missing the size you need for an ordinary job, but for some jobs, there is nothing like a step bit. This job I am doing is an example- I am going to drill the holes to seat those orange grommets. I figure most people know what a Weber lid looks like- or you can easily go look at one here on BoloThis bit looks fine. When checking over the edges and shank, I did not note anything that might be a problem. The only thing is that the engraved measurements are not all equally deep and some are thus not easy to read. However, since you can see the rest of the imprints, you can still tell what the other measurements are. Still, it should have been done better, evenly. If you have any little jobs planned similar to mine. these step drill bits are not that bad a price, and for some jobs they are the best way to go. If you are really good at handling a drill, you can even use a bit like this for countersinking a flat rather than tapered-neck fasterner. like some types of bolts. they are a handy addition to your kit, and this one comes in a very nice little heavy plastic holder which latches itself closed so the bit stay inside and its edges are protected from being dinged around in a tool box.
5.0 out of 5 stars High Quality, Well Made, Good Durability, Sharp Cutting Edges, Well Marked Steps, Great Price
This HENDAR 10 Size HSS Titanium Coated Step Drill Bit is very nice. It looks solidly made, of high quality materials. I like the fact that is double fluted, which helps make drilling more stable and so makes cutting the hole more clean and even. The cutting edges are very sharp and the bit seems like it will be durable and have a good long service life. This bit is stable enough to be used in a hand drill, corded or cordless, as well as a drill press. The heat resistance is good and I didn't see any indication of burning or glowing, even while at high RPM's on the drill press. The design of the drill also means that it is automatically deburring the hole as it drills. The SAE hole sizes are well marked on each step on the bit and are easy to read.I can highly recommend this HENDAR 10 Size HSS Titanium Coated Step Drill Bit. It's price point is amazing and is way less than comparable bits on the market, being about a quarter of the average price I have seen.I happily give it a Full 5 Stars!
5.0 out of 5 stars Sharp and so handy for making holes in tin siding, never knew about these till now!
Well I guess I am old timey- for I never knew about these. Before to make like 1 inch holeyou had to drill it out as good as you could and then cut little slots around the edgesand bend those in to make the hole just the right size.. It did help to support whateverwasgoing thru the hole tho, and not cut it with the sharp edge. ( Like a electric wire withcoating on it....) . But quite happy to find these :)
3.0 out of 5 stars Needs A Hex Drive Shank
Does the job it is designed to do.The shank needs to be a hex shank instead of a round shank though. That way it can be utilized with an impact driver and not only a drill.
5.0 out of 5 stars Drilled out a couple of holes quickly and cleanly!
This Hendar step drill bit is a handy tool for anyone who needs to drill a variety of hole sizes. It offers excellent hole coverage and is much easier than switching out individual drill bits.I used it to enlarge a couple of holes in some 1/8" mild steel with some drilling oil, and it worked great, keeping its edge well. The titanium coating does its job, providing a smooth and efficient cut. The step design makes it easy to create accurate holes, and the dual-flute design got the chips out of the way immediately. It was also really nice that it included a case to protect the bit. For the price, this is an excellent value and a handy addition to any toolbox.
5.0 out of 5 stars Nicely machined Step Bit
This is a well made Titanium coated Step Bit that can cut 10 STEPS:1/4", 3/8", 1/2", 5/8", 3/4", 7/8", 1", 1-1/8", 1-1/4", 1-3/8". It is machined well and feels sharp to the touch. What I also like about this is that it has a Hex Shank that helps to keep the bit solidly in your chuck. Even though I tend to drill at slow speeds when I use step bits, I have one with a straight shank that always loosens in the chuck. This is a good value since it has many steps and costs $8.98 at the time I am writing this.
