I even tried CoDA but it just wasn't for me.No matter how many times my therapist and I talked about my family and everything I do for my partner it never clicked because I am still happy too, but the stories in this book and the questions I had to answer finally made it all click. I finally get why my therapist kept pushing me about self care and my friend says I'm too passive in my relationships. I never would have thought of boundaries as self care before this book. I finally feel like I have a self care plan I can stick to based on the recommendations in this book.I also was doing detachment all wrong. It comes off as indifference and I think my partner feels like I don't like them as much. We're going to have some discussions around this book and I'm going to set some boundaries while making sure my partner still feels cared for. I finally feel like I can actually do this!

I really love this book. It was not an easy read in the sense that the anecdotes, questions and exercises made me confront the uncomfortable part of myself, but it was necessary. You can feel the author's compassion from the way he writes and I really appreciate it. Highly recommended.

I thought the stories and exercises which Sol wrote about were practical and relatable. The book provides clear steps for setting boundaries and improving self-worth. While the content is very useful, some sections feel a bit surface-level. I think readers looking for more in-depth psychological analysis may find themselves wanting more depth. With that being said, I still highly recommend this book.

I sent this book to my friend who is currently going through a tough divorce. She is already at the point where she knows things were bad in the relationship, but what helped was when I sent this and asked her to have a look through the first few pages, where it has a bullet point list to help you identify a co dependant relationship. For her, this was something eye opening, or rather validating to her situation. But overall this book has been a great help to her - now as she takes the steps to overcoming the relationship, and learning that she is strong on her own two feet, and that the codependency wasn't 'loving acts' but manipulation to make her feel weak.

I have found this book to be extremely helpful in my healing journey. Ray has included insightful journaling prompts thru out the book allowing for active reading and relating the material to your own behaviors. I appreciate all the real world examples used as it makes it more relatable than just information being thrown at you.It’s sectioned out clearly making it easy to jump back into sections you may want to revisit.I have been going to CoDA and nervous to take the first steps to finding a sponsor and working the steps but working thru the prompts in this book have helped me uncover things in my past that make moving forward in group feel less daunting.Thank you!

A wonderfully written book well worthy enjoyment of reading
I really enjoyed reading the whole book. It was extremely well written and well researched. It was an enjoyable read. And importantly I learned a lot about the signs of being in a codependent relationship. What are the red flags what to look for and what causes codependent relationships. Equally importantly it has a lot of very practical and easy answers and solutions strategies. It is a workbook right through asking you to reflect and journal with important prompts. Highly recommend this book for everyone actually because it really does highlight the importance of parenting styles and how your attachment style to your child is critical to them growing up with a healthy sense of self-worth so that they form healthy relationships with other people, express their needs and boundaries and do not have codependent behaviours. Excellent book highly recommended.
Wonderful reaource!
This is a great read that is full of useful advice and support. It is well weitten and structurex and very easy to follow. The exercises, quizez and prompts are excellent and I was surprised to find out more about myself that was new to me! I might be codependent! It focuses on self love, boundaries and taking little steps. I really cam recommend this book!
