⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Mini-enclyclopedia of Electrical Engineering
The 2025 Edition of 'Step by Step Electrical Engineering,' with no background required, by Mr. Gregor Haynes, is a mini-encyclopedia jewel of electrical engineering. It has been masterfully written in a modular format, and it includes a comprehensive method for introducing Electrical Engineering to future potential Electrical Engineering students, as well as serving as a reference manual for professionals. It is unusual to find a summary of electrical engineering as well-written in a compact document; it is easy to read, with 174 pages providing a solid foundation in the field. This is an excellent book for students, electrical trade professionals, and professional engineers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Delightful Learning Experience
This book took me by surprise with its fresh and innovative approach to learning electrical engineering. It’s not just another technical manual—it’s a guide that brings energy and curiosity to the subject. The author has a remarkable ability to turn what could be intimidating topics into something engaging, almost like having a one-on-one conversation with a mentor. What makes this book truly stand out is how it draws you in. Each chapter doesn’t just explain fundamental concepts—it tells a story about why they work the way they do. For example, I was fascinated by how circuits were described not just as a collection of components but as a dynamic system that follows its own set of "rules." This kind of storytelling keeps you hooked and makes the concepts easier to remember. This isn’t just a book that teaches—it inspires you to experiment, ask questions, and see the electrical world through a new lens. If you think learning is a chore, this guide will change your mind. It’s a resource that offers far more than expected, sparking inspiration for anyone looking to deepen their knowledge or start a new journey. A truly memorable experience, page after page.
4.0 out of 5 stars Brief but balanced survey of EE; book marred by binding flaws
I used to work in an electric utility but retired now. I ordered this book as a kind of refresher and because I was curious about how a subject as complex as electrical engineering (EE) would be covered in a book 160 pages long, with the subheading of "no background required". By just skimming the pages, I can tell you that although a technical-oriented background isn't required, you should have a good grasp of high school level physics and you're not averse to math. At the very least you need to have a predisposition toward science for this book to be of benefit to you. This isn't a criticism of it or of the reader. Just an observation that if you're not the intended audience you might be disappointed. But even if you're a layman on the subject but willing to learn, go ahead. You might find it an absorbing read. This book offered a good background on EE, from the basics to the more advanced topics without getting too overwhelming or too simplistic. You can get almost all the information in it from online sources, even Ai. But a physical book is impervious to the online rabbit hole. It offers an organic, uncluttered way to learn. If you need to, you can go on the Internet for some help then come back to the well laid out format of the book. It's supported by quizzes and practical exercises, EE symbols and a glossary of major terms. Printed on thick paper and sharp text, the page is easy on the eyes. How to get the included companion pdf, which is the digital version of the physical one. Write the author an email request with a screenshot of your genuine proof of purchase. He'd be happy to give you the link. To get the quiz and practical exercises, scan the QR code in the relevant chapter and download the files to your phone. Tip: Use Google lens to scan. It's a native app, quick and free of ads. I got all the pdf files without a problem. In one of my photos, you can see part of the pdf version open in the laptop beside the book.A word of caution. Many of the practical exercises involve only a breadboard, some small resistors, an ordinary dry 9V battery, magnets, switches, and small DC relays. These are relatively safe. But when it calls for an AC power source, I advise you to just skip the AC exercises until you have a solid, respectful appreciation of electrical safety. The author wrote about electrical safety and hazards, too, so be aware. Some areas for improvement. Perhaps the instructions on how to get the companion pdf should be in the very front pages, not relegated in the back (although there might be security reasons for this.) I think that the text could use a disinterested proofreader to smooth out the general writing stream further. In chapter 1, for example, the author had an idiom that he repeated several times; a bit distracting. A proofreader would catch it and suggest an alternative. The cover of the book had not been cut well. It needs improvement on the binding alignment, too. I'll deduct a star for these reasons.Overall, I believe that the author achieved his purpose of giving a brief, balanced survey of the fascinating landscape of electrical engineering. At just U$20 it's a good value.

Electrical engineering book
Seems like a useful book, I have studied some engineering at university and electrical work at college. This book has good basics of how electrons work and gives good examples of AC and DC and what applications they are used for. It also gives the basic equations and formulas for working out voltages, power, current and resistance. Also some good exercises, I have not used the barcodes yet for the online stuff or read the book but I look forward to doing both. I do electronics as a hobby. I was hoping to work as an engineer or electrician but that has not worked out for me. I have turned my house off grid though and enjoy building electronics kits.
Even an 81yo electronics virgin can follow this!!
Not only have i already learned much from the first two chapters but Gregor (author) has been so helpful as i have needed to contact himm over a couple difficulties i have had. I am 81yo and have at last decided to set out on electrical work for model railways (newbie MERG member.) Never thought I would get a grasp of this (to me) complicated subject.Thank you Gregor for all your help.
Misleading and Unethical Product, Largely Edited by AI
I never leave reviews unless something deserves 5 stars, but this is borderline unethical. You can clearly see it's been heavily edited by ChatGPT or another LLM, it just raises your eyebrows because something reads oddly. That's why you don't see any deep explanations and the content feels generic. Don't waste your money on this poor-quality product. This is a borderline scam (not to mention an older book that has almost the name written by Johannes Wild). Strongly advise against this misleading book and go for a legitimate intro textbook like 'Electrical Engineering 101' by Darren Ashby.
