5.0 out of 5 stars Exactly what I was looking for!

    L. · March 8, 2025

The Abxylute S9 is an awesome mobile controller that nails both comfort and functionality. The shape feels great in hand, and the textured back provides an excellent grip, making long gaming sessions a breeze. The analog sticks have just the right amount of resistance, making movements feel precise and natural, while the buttons are satisfyingly tactile. One of the best things is how well it fits my Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Lenovo gaming tablet perfectly, giving me a seamless gaming experience on both devices. But what really takes it to the next level is the companion app. It allows me to play games that normally don’t support controllers, which is a game-changer. If you're looking for a high-quality mobile controller with great ergonomics and versatility, the Abxylute S9 is definitely worth checking out.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really cool game controller for phones - turns them into PSPs!

    D.C. · March 4, 2025

I used to play a lot of handhelds, like the Gameboy and Playstation Portable, but had sold them long ago. I'm back into emulation on my laptop and smartphone. I just picked up a C6 for that, and it works nice on my Surface Pro and phone. But, the phone screen looks a bit too small while playing games because I'm sitting in my chair and my phone is on my desk with the C6, so the S9 looked like it could PSP my phone. The S9 arrived in an Bolo bag, so nothing besides the S9 box to protect it. The box had two taller analog sticks, two extra D-pad buttons, and a bunch of stick on phone spacers. There's three spots, two on the USB port side, one on the other side of the S9 dock to stick them, but I didn't need to use them. I couldn't figure how to get the D-pad out at first, but a sharp knife underneath it on the right arrow with a gentle nudge up popped it up. After I got it off, I saw how the pads are held down by two springy notches on the left and right - see photos. So as long as you get the left or right side of the D-pad nudged loose, the pad comes off easy. The sticks worried me right away trying to pull it off. The entire ball its on actually came up a tiny bit with a click and I was worried I broke it. I pushed it back down and the ball clicked back to the original position. To get the stick off, I used my thumbnail to hold the ball in place while pulling up on the stick with my other hand to pop it off. It'll take a bit more pull than you might think, but it won't hurt them. The instructions came with labels you can stick on your phone or controller to remind you how to switch modes and stuff. It's not that hard - just press the M button on the left grip and the home button on the right grip until the M light changes modes. The S9 is better than the C6 because it has one extra mode - PS/Playstation mode. Both also have HID, Xbox, and Switch modes. The controller instantly worked the moment I plugged in my phone. No need to do anything else. Controller test app immediately saw the controller and the buttons and sticks worked when testing. The optional Abxylute S9 app also has a built-in controller tester to make sure everything's working.I started up my favorite, Sonic the Hedgehog on the Genesis emulator. Worked fine cranking through the levels like nothing. Smooth buttons, solid grips - felt like I was gaming on my Sega Genesis again. Tested a few more games on the PPSSPP emulator. Taiko worked fine - XYAB for the small drum stick, L/R shoulder buttons for the big drum stick. Took a few minutes to settle into the groove to get my timing right since the buttons weren't like the arcade or PSP buttons, but the S9 shoulder buttons were actually better than the PSP because they're bigger and rounded versus the squarer edged PSP shoulders.Next was Wipeout. I wanted to try the gyroscope, and had to go into the PPSSPP settings to turn on the support and calibrate it - a must otherwise the ships fly goofy. Like ten seconds to figure it out and done. I actually got used to flying the ship faster than using the analog stick, and Wipeout is a lot more immersive using the gyro. Super easy to get into the groove flying this way and faster than Taiko for me to get into the groove.I tried Socom next and it was smooth going at first, then I moved in my chair and the controls went a bit wonky. I couldn't figure it out for a few seconds, then realized I left the PPSSPP gyro support on. So yeah, I could aim my pip and shoot just by leaning the S9 and I didn't need to use the stick/D-pad. That was cool to play with, so maybe I'll try playing with the gyro on, but I'm still better with the stick. Moving, shooting, locking targets, switching weapons, squatting, standing was all smooth on the S9.I tried out the PS mode with the AtherSX PS2 emulator and MGS2. Crap spare phone, so fps was in the dumps. But I was able to plug in my headphones and use the vibration on the S9 just fine. The rumble isn't exactly the same as the Playstation controllers, but it best for me on the second to highest vibration level. There's a lot of ways to customize the S9 in the Abxylute S9 app - dead zones for the sticks and triggers, XYAB button arrangement, etc, but I didn't need to tweak these because the S9 works fine out of the box. You can shortcut a bunch of favorite games for the apps home screen, update the firmware, and map on-screen touch controls to the S9 buttons and sticks. Don't play any native Android games to use that feature, so didn't test that out.Overall, the S9 feels like a great controller. Instantly turned my spare phone into a PSP and everything worked fine. The balance and feel was great, just like my PSP when I bought the launch edition from Japan, but the shoulder buttons are definitely better than on the PSP. And Sonic really runs nice with the S9, so that makes me happy. Easy to use, stretches out to hold big phones, tight springs so the phone won't drop out, and no setup - just plug in the phone and game away.

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality Controller With Great Features

    S.K. · January 31, 2025

I've been looking at these style controllers for quite some time before deciding to take a chance with the Abxylute S9. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I'm very pleasantly surprised. The controller itself feels great. Solid construction, nice textured surface on the back of the hand grips, the Hall effect joysticks are smooth and responsive, and the buttons are nice and clicky—not mushy at all. It comes with three different types of D-pads and an extra set of longer joysticks. Not needed by any means, but a nice option, and one that I took full advantage of.The USB-C connector for the phone is flexible and adjustable, so there's no concern about bending and possibly breaking it. It fits my phone (Pixel 7 Pro in the Dbrand Grip case) perfectly but also includes a few standoffs in case any adjustments are needed. Pass-through charging is great, but you can also use the controller by drawing power from the phone. I'm not sure how much that would affect battery life, but it's an option at least.I saw some other reviews talk about the app not being on the Play Store and not being able to add games. Perhaps this was the case at that time, but I downloaded it from the Play Store without a problem, and it prompted me to add apps as soon as I started the app. There's also some sort of integration with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate/X Cloud. It works surprisingly well and is great since Microsoft decided to discontinue their app.I'm honestly very happy with this controller. They're a lesser-known company, sure, but this is a quality product and I'm looking forward to seeing what they come up with in the future.

    Perfect controller for mobile gaming.

After a little while looking for the right controller for me, I settled on this one and didn't regret it. The build feels great and sturdy when it's attached to the phone. With it coming with extra thumb sticks and D-pads I can customize the controller to feel how I like, they just pop off and you can put the others on. After using it for some hours now, I can say it feels really comfortable to hold for long periods of time. I don't if the little face plates can be changed to others or that is something that would be coming at later date.Overall I would recommend this controller to anyone who is looking for the advantage when playing mobile games, great build quality and feels great you won't be disappointed.

ABXYLUTE S9 USB C Controller: Big, Functional, and Surprisingly Chill

    E. · May 27, 2025

I’ve been a fan of Android gaming controllers for a while now, and the S9 is the newest one I’ve tried. What I really liked right away is how quiet it is. I have two toddlers, so I play most of my games while they’re asleep. A loud, clicky controller just wouldn’t work, and thankfully, this one is nice and quiet. No loud clacks when I’m pulling off combos or doing quick movements.I tested it with my Galaxy S22 Ultra, and also (for fun) with the Tab S9 Ultra, which is basically a slab of glass the size of a cutting board. It honestly looks kind of hilarious docked into the controller, but it fit. You do have to pop it out of the default slot, but once it’s in, it holds fine. Realistically, for using with a large tablet, you are better off plugging the controller into a battery bank and use it in bluetooth mode or some kind of usb c extension cable.I mainly play retro stuff. I tried Super Mario World (a Kaizo version), Street Fighter III: Third Strike, and Brotato for something a little more modern. I’ve been using Joy Cons for years, so switching to a full sized controller was weird at first. The buttons felt huge in comparison. It took me a little while to adjust, especially with Third Strike where I had trouble pulling off EX moves (you have to hit two punches or kicks at the same time). At first I kept messing up, but after some time, I was landing them consistently. Same with diagonals, I had a few slip-ups early on, but that mostly went away as I got used to the feel.In Mario World, I didn’t notice any issues. The dpad felt fine, no accidental spins or missed inputs. Everything felt solid. Is it my favourite controller ever of all time? Probably not. It’s a little bigger than I’d prefer, but I also get that it’s supposed to be a full-size controller, and it does that well. I didn’t mess with the swappable d-pads or accessories yet. I might at some point, but so far the default setup has been totally fine for me.Overall, it does exactly what it’s supposed to. It’s quiet, it works, and as a bonus, it can hold a 13-inch tablet without breaking a sweat. It might look ridiculous doing it, but hey, it works.

Finally, a mobile controller done right!

    R.C. · August 6, 2025

I bought this controller partly out of curiosity and partly because I needed something comfortable to game with when I’m on the train or away from home, and I have to say, I was genuinely impressed. The build quality is immediately noticeable: the materials feel solid, and both the joysticks and triggers are very responsive. Since both use Hall effect sensors, you won’t have to worry about stick drift. The grip is also very comfortable, even during longer gaming sessions. One feature I really appreciated is that you can charge your phone while playing, thanks to the USB-C passthrough port on the bottom, plus there's also a headphone jack on the right side. The Bluetooth connection is fast and stable, I haven’t experienced any lag so far.Another great point is that it’s extendable. I tested it with my S25 Ultra, which is quite a large phone (6.9 inches), and it fits perfectly even with the case on.The free abxy app is a nice bonus. It lets you remap buttons, adjust joystick and trigger sensitivity, and it works with Xbox Cloud Gaming, PS Remote Play, emulators, and more.I used it with Steam Link to play Ghost of Tsushima, and it ran beautifully, input lag was practically nonexistent. On iOS the app is a bit more limited due to Apple’s restrictions (no virtual touch support, and only a predefined list of games), but on Android the experience is fully featured.Another detail I really liked: the box includes silicone spacers to better fit thinner devices. The packaging is entirely paper-based, with no plastic at all, something I definitely appreciate from an environmental perspective.Inside the box you’ll also find two extra D-Pads (three in total including the one pre-installed), plus two longer analog sticks for more precise control. Swapping them is super easy, just lift the left-side faceplate, which is held firmly in place by strong magnets. In summary:✅ Works great on both Android and iOS✅ Excellent build quality✅ Comfortable, lightweight, and customizable✅ Ideal for cloud gaming, emulators, or mobile games like COD Mobile, Genshin Impact, etc.I’d buy it again without hesitation. If you’re looking for a serious mobile gaming controller, this one is "Abxylute" worth it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really cool game controller for phones - turns them into PSPs!
