I am never uncomfortable leaving spliced wires out in the open (in attics/rafters). I would typically use stud mounted box which can be awkward when you are not mounting to studs.These boxes are easy to use & simple to mount. Don't need to route wires through the back of the box so it is easy to use these boxes to existing wire nut splices.
