2 Pack Rose Cones for Winter Protection with Bracket and Stakes, Winter Rose Protective Cover Winter Rose Bush Covers Rose Collar for Winter Protection Against Frost, Freeze, Wind

Description:

  • High Quality Material: Our Rose Protector is made of a reinforced canvas material and fiberglass brackets, paired with 4 steel U-shaped ground spike fasteners to protect the rose cover from blowing away in the wind and snow, and for long term use.
  • Easy to Use: Simply assemble the support frame by placing it on a pruned plant and inserting it into the soil to hold it in place, then attach the cover to the frame. When assembling the frame make sure that all the support rods are inserted to the very bottom of the holes so that the support will be stable.
  • Product Design: The white cover is well insulated to prevent heat buildup, and the mesh top allows heat and moisture to escape, reducing the chance of plants breaking dormancy prematurely. The cover has a little zipper top so you can open, allowing sunlight, air and water to penetrate.
  • Product Size: Our rose cover measures 18.1 inch in height and 11.8 inch in diameter, the height and width is suitable for more plants. With two side loops, you can anchor it using two rocks or bricks to pin down two fabric loops, one on each side. Or it can be easily staked using our matching ground stakes. You can also use both bricks and ground spikes for a stronger fixing.
  • Wide Application: Rose cone for winter protection is suitable for protecting roses, shrubs and hydrangeas; protects your plants from a variety of potential damages, such as cold air, wind damage, frost damage, insects gnawing on the roots, etc.

Im using this cone for a baby rose this winter. I think it's going to work nicely.

Good material. Prior purchase has been used one year, still going strong. Would recommend.

3.0 out of 5 stars Too small for most rose bushes, quality canvas

    S.M. · November 4, 2024

Once built, the cover is pretty solid for protection; I like the zip opening to water plants without having to remove the cover.I did not like building it. You had to cut off some of the smaller plastic pieces that were attached and then form all of the bigger pieces together into something that resembled a circle. Then the cover slips on, to a tight fit. They did include instructions, which was nice because that seems to be 50-50 for most Bolo products these days, but you don't have to follow the steps in the exact order to get the same result.I have a petite rose bush - not very tall but does have some fullness to it. This cover did not fit at all. There was no way to fit all of the rose bush inside of it. I'd say that you have to have very short, very slim roses to make use of this cover.Since we were going to get a frost, I decided to test it on one of my annuals. It held up pretty well for a light frost, but once there was a hard frost, the plant died as normal (as to be expected).Overall, if you have a small plant to protect against the elements during the winter, this would work, but be sure to check the measurements first to make sure it will fit.

4.0 out of 5 stars Basically a Canvas Bag With a Mesh Strip on Top, And Zip Bottom + a Small Plastic Tomato Cage.

    A.C. · October 9, 2024

We had a very cold winter last year and I lost several rose bushes. We normally get wind, so I think between the wind and the unseasonably cold, some of the roses just froze completely. They never came back and even those which did suffered. This year I'm being proactive and I've gotten a few different types of these protective covers. I think this one is decent, but not perfect. My plan is to cover my more tender roses and fill the bag with light compost about halfway up.I haven't yet used this through the winter, but here are my initial observations.PLASTIC FRAME: Not Well Designed - But Likely OK for a 1-2 Seasons, Tomato Cage+1 Extra Piece. This Rose Cover uses a frame which you construct by snapping together plastic arches to make a "hoop", similar to some plastic tomato cages which use almost identical material. The issue is that these plastic arches do not make a hoop when snapped together, they have the wrong curve for the size of "almost circle". Instead they make a scalloped circle, which over time will likely put too much stress on the 'joints" and I think they will fail, particularly if the weather gets really cold, causing the plastic to become brittle.I think the frame is literally just a tomato cage that was supposed to be smaller, and in instead of manufacturing new mold for the proper rose cover size, they just added one extra frame piece for each circle.FABRIC BAG / COVER. Like the Mesh at the Top and That the Cover Unzips, But Doesn't Fit Well on Frame. The fabric cover is essentially a white canvas bag, with a webbed handles (which run vertically), a mesh strip along the bottom and a base which unzips. You just put this bag upside down over the frame. The bag is circular, so it doesn't fit well because the frame isn't a circle. I really wanted to leave the top open and was happy that this unzips, but there is no way to secure the bag to the frame, so if you unzip the top, the whole thing droops. I do like the webbed "handles" which I'll use to secure the bag to the ground with a brick. (Small Landscape staples are also included if you prefer to use those instead to secure the cover).INSTALLATION: Again A Tomato Cage, Plastic Bits Which Snap Together. Some Parts Need to Be Snapped Off.Really no Issues. It's a bit brittle so be careful snapping the pieces together. Some of the smaller parts are still attached to other parts as they were in the original mold, so you need to unsnap the parts like you're putting together a cereal box toy.OVERALL: Like The Canvas Bag, Dislike the Frame.I'll use the bag, but I have some chicken wire / hardware cloth and I plan to just roll that in a circle (and just zip ties) and then just put the canvas bag on top of that. I don't trust the brittle plastic frame and I don't want to take a change on it failing. I'll figure out some clips to allow me to keep the canvas top unzipped without the bag dropping down.

5.0 out of 5 stars easy to use

    A.M. · December 26, 2024

easy to useprotected my large potted rose bushsturdy and durable even with snow and high wind

5.0 out of 5 stars A great way to protect a young rose!

    S.M. · December 1, 2024

I installed this last week over a rose that I planted at the end of summer. It was easy enough to put together, and it sits nicely over the plant. Once in place, it was easy to unzip it and add some leaves for mulch/insulation. I like that it has a vent for airflow, and that the top can be opened on nicer days to allow light in. In late winter I'll probably unzip it to allow rain and sunshine in while still leaving the mulch in place to guard the base.

5.0 out of 5 stars For small, upright roses needing winter covering - only 11.8" diameter. But NICE.

    K.W. · October 13, 2024

Quick, easy up/easy use and easy store winter cover idea. Uses a framework of 2 tier, green plastic connecting rods similar to cheap plastic tomato cages. Lightweight. The canvas and mesh cylinder fits down and over the framework. The whole thing is only just over 11.5" diameter, and to keep your roses or other plants from freezing the leaves should not be touching the cloth. However, for true winter coverings, the rose will freeze no matter what, you just don't want it to freeze too hard. The cover is canvas (white) and a section at the top of a green, nylon mesh. The top circle part has a nylon zipper, good sized. The top is flat, just like in the photos/description. This will work for smaller, upright roses or other plants too. The flat top will hold snow, but that's more insulation against the wind. We will see how we do next winter when I use this. I do think it will keep the winds off my rose, stop critters from getting to the branches and the mesh will keep it so that it breaths, doesn't retain too much heat or moisture. The fit and finish is pretty nice. Comes with small metal U shaped ground stakes too. I'll use those and bricks to hold it down and in place. My winters are Zone old 4b/new 5a (-20 to -15 degrees F) up on a ridge. I like this idea/product, good fit and finish.

This item came safely packaged and it has to be assembled. I think it will work reasonably well but it is pretty lightweight. I question how many of our very windy, cold mid-west winters it can actually hold up to. I'm also a bit concerned how to make sure it stays safely in place. That being said it does seem to work and is as advertised.
