All aboard! The combined spirits of H.P. Lovecraft, early Sam Raimi and Mystery Science Theater 3000 inhabit this action-packed tale of nautical derring-do and monster mayhem - winner of the Audience Award for Best International Feature at the 2019 Fantasia Film Festival. On the shores of Lake Michigan, the eccentric Captain Seafield (Ryland Brickson Cole Tews, who also writes and directs) enlists a colourful crew of misfits in a bid to slay the hellish sea monster that prowls the murky depths. But as Seafield's obsession with exacting revenge on the creature that killed his father threatens to consume him, can weapons expert Sean Shaughnessy (Erick West), sonar whiz Nedge Pepsi (Beulah Peters) and former N.A.V.Y. - Nautical Athletes and Adventure Yunit - officer Dick Flynn (Daniel Long) hold the show together? Shot in gloriously retro black and white on a shoestring budget, with most of the cast also performing multiple roles behind the camera, Lake Michigan Monster is an inventive, irreverent and riotously entertaining ode to the classic monster movies of yesteryear: an absurdist urban legend guaranteed to appeal to the big kid in all of us.

Ok, if you are a movie snob, this is not for you. If you are a fun-loving easy going person who appreciates humor, this is a good watch. There is a decent plot, interesting character development and mad cheesy special effects. Great to sit around and watch with friends. Get a good giggle.

The imagination of the Lake Michigan team knows no boundaries! This film is filled with laughs and surprises from start to finish and it leave you hungry for more! Smart use of green screen technology creates worlds and characters that are a delight to explore! Wisconsin filmmaking at it's most creative!

To review the physical copy it’s nice I love everything about the way it’s built and the disc art, can’t wait till hundreds of beavers goes physical

All throughout The Lake Michigan Monster carries a "campy" 1950's monster movie theme, enhanced by nostalgic black and white filming, "old timey" sound track, but filmed in modern times. Not to mention the comedy is low brow S.econd C.ty Tv sprinkled with Sam Raimi horror film comedic "chops": heads will roll dead will speak, and the ever famous "eye popping" moments just to name a few.I'd give 10********** stars if I could. For all the low star graders Lake Michigan Monster is a dose of TRUE comedy. See your way out and enjoy the rest of your rom-com "Netflix and Chill" blah-blah taped laughter lives.

A lot of people say this movie is very Spongebob-core, and they aren't wrong. It's camp, it's exaggerated, and very stylized. A fun movie, and I love the visuals with all my heart!

This movie stole the show at a bad movie night I held with friends. It’s genuinely hilarious and creative, 10/10

I picked this movie up based on the strength of the Arrow label, the trailer, and description. On paper it should be the type of weird, quirky, comedy (seemingly attempting to borrow style from and spoof Jules Verne type adventure movies) should be entirely my type of movie. After a half hour though, I had to turn it off. It was neither funny or fun and ended up being a disappointment. Save yourself the headache and go watch 2001's Lost Skeleton of Cadavra instead.
