I have purchased many of these ‘the story of’ books over the years for my homeschooled daughter. I like that they discuss the facts in an accessible way, and they do not hide the dark or depressing bits. Each book talks about the person’s childhood and what aspects helped them grow into the historical figure they became. Abraham Lincoln’s story discusses war, his son’s death, and his own assassination, but is such a way that it never upset my daughter as the reader. I have found that these books have grown with my daughter from age 6-10.

I have to say, this is a pretty interesting group of biographies to put together - but I like it. It's nice because it touches on different people (past, recently past, and present) which I think is good to pull in a child's interest. These books are a combination of text and illustrations, a good mix for your 1-2 grade reader. And these are in color, so they'll capture the eyes and attention.These would be great as a supplement to learning history for the more historical figures, and a great way to introduce other figures (like Simone Biles). All in all, fun books to add to your collection that will also teach about history and important figures.

This is a somewhat disparate collection of biographies. I would love to see themed collections like famous forefathers, inspirational athletes, visual artists, etc. I think then the collection would gel a little better and it could be integrated into learning a little more smoothly. However, as is, the kids really enjoyed the Lincoln volume. This volume supports and enhances what they have already learned in school. (But, the collection itself might be nice for children who are being homeschooled).The visuals are large, the print is oversized, and the vocabulary/writing style is very basic. While nothing here is challenging, it is informative.I think these could be nice for a public library or a classroom library. I would love to see these as themed collections so that they fit into the curriculum a little more effortlessly.

I was already familiar with this series. The books are excellent, and the current selection does not disappoint. It’s an interesting mix of biographies. Engaging and educational. You can’t ask for more.
