Really impressed with this gimbal. It's a vast improvement over the iSteady X that I had and far outshines the DJI OM4.Pros:Lightweight, half the weight of the OM4 and handles my Pixel 7 Pro with no issuesVery smooth operation and I prefer the fixed clamp over the magnetic one that DJI has.The detachable remote that acts as the controller is great. Doing selfies or group photos and videos are no longer an issue as you don't have to worry about a timer.I really appreciate that you no longer have to turn knobs to lock the gimbal in place when fully open like you did on the X.The construction and material fell like high quality which I really appreciate.It also supports Android unlike DJI, which totally abandoned Android support.Cons: honestly it's hard to find fault with this gimbal. If I discover anything I'll update this review

I've been struggling with my videos being properly framed when recording volleyball games, so I thought I'd try a gimbal. This Hohem X3 SE comes with a compact tripod and thin carrying bag - very basic. (The non-SE version comes with a LED light and extendable selfie stick.) Putting the phone on the gimbal is fairly straightforward - ensure the logo is upright in the phone carrying grip and grip the phone towards its middle. The grip is pretty tight so it takes 2 hands to pry it open and then position it correctly. Turning on the gimbal will then automatically straighten the phone. I had to read through the quick start guide and then the tutorial videos because there are different control buttons. I also downloaded the Hohem app, which fortunately doesn't require you to register an account.While most of the functions of the gimbal can be used without the app, there are some key functions that do require it. One is the in-app camera which replicates most of the modern native camera app, including panoramic, photo, and video recording. What is only available is the "AI tracking" which tracks faces and objects to pan the phone around. (Draw a rectangle in the camera to select the face or object.) This works most of the time, having the gimbal move the camera around to follow the object. I did notice sometimes it jerks around so it's not perfect. The other function is zoom using the remote or scroll wheel. That function does not work in the native camera app, which is disappointing.As to the stabilization performance, it works pretty well. There are different modes where the camera can be locked in no matter what the handle rotates to, or limited rotations where the camera slowly follows the rotation. Overall I'm pretty satisfied with the stabilization and my setup for my video recording is a bit faster. The price is reasonable for the features that this gimbal and app provides.

This has all the features of my aging DJI OM 4 SE, plus it has a removable remote, and it is less expensive! I paid $99 for my DJI OM 4 SE and at the time of this review, the iSteady X3 SE Gimbal Stabilizer for iPhone is $69.99 with a 20% off coupon bringing the price down to $55.99 before taxes! That is almost half the price of the DJI!This gimbal is awesome! It comes with the iSteady X3 gimble, detachable remote, detachable tripod, USB to USB-C charging cable, carrying bag, quick start guide, and instruction manual.Once you install the app and connect to the iSteady X3 SE via Bluetooth, a whole new set of features open up to you. From zoom control, video/picture mode selection, and my absolute feature, object tracking via gesture control! That's right, get into view of the camera, flash a peace sign, and it starts recording or takes a picture after a 3-second countdown, and flash a full open fingered hand, and it stops recording. The best part is, between the start/stop gestures, your phone will track your every move! Even with my iPhone 14 Pro Max and case, it does an excellent job of tracking and it can be very quick!My only wish is, that since this is marketed toward iPhone users, that it had a MagSafe connection instead of the phone claw. Maybe include the MagSafe to phone claw. But perhaps this will be implemented in a future version.If you are looking for a gimbal, stop. Buy this one. You will not regret it.

With features like AI tracking and gesture control, I can get creative with my shots without needing a film degree!
