5.0 out of 5 stars Pi8 versus AZ1000
(function() { P.when('cr-A', 'ready').execute(function(A) { if(typeof A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel === 'function') { A.toggleExpanderAriaLabel('review_text_read_more', 'Read more of this review', 'Read less of this review'); } }); })(); .review-text-read-more-expander:focus-visible { outline: 2px solid #2162a1; outline-offset: 2px; border-radius: 5px; } I will try to make this easy. If you want the absolute best sounding earbuds the Bowers and Wilkins Pi8 are the best. If you are okay with just a little less clarity but more bass the Technics AZ1000 are the best. The rest in this category are now okay. You want the best noise cancellation and bass - Bose Quiet Comfort Ultra. The most features - Apple AirPods Pro 2. The Sony WF-1000XM5 no longer excel at anything. The sound doesn’t compare and the Spatial Audio requires 3rd party apps.I am not factoring in call quality, AI crap, connectivity, nothing else. Just how do they perform at their core function. I spent a week switching back and forth back and forth, etc. between the AZ1000 and Pi8. Often switching headphones mid song to compare, listening to the same song over and over, etc.How to describe the Pi8… vocals are more prominent if you will. You can hear the artist enunciate. I’ve heard lyrics in songs I’ve listened to for decades that I have never been able to make out before. Your music will sound different, almost new. But in a very good way. It’s one thing to listen, though with these you can actually hear everything! The AZ1000 is more of a traditional listening experience, though amongst the best out there. The bass is much more pronounced than the Pi8 and they have Spatial Audio. They sound better with Apple TV and I prefer them over the Pi8 with Apple TV.I am not going to go into the connectivity issues with the Pi8 (I had none), nor the abundant features of the AX1000. Honestly the AZ1000 are probably better because they have a better battery life, betterish sound cancellation, and way more features. That being said I still reach for the Pi8 more because they sound so good and get so loud. I would advise turning on the headphone warning if you have Apple. You rarely need to go above 50 - 60 % with them.
5.0 out of 5 stars If you love music, you'll love these
Bought these and the az100s to A/B. Mainly for use at home, and the occasional trip. When the az100s first arrived, I could barely tell them apart from my old Galaxy buds 2, even with LDAC enabled. To their credit, they were more comfortable/minimal and the software had all the features, despite how bad the UI was. People say you can EQ them, but that's a rabbit hole I'd rather avoid. But when I got the pi8's, I was blown away by the power and soundstage. Yes, they are much louder so I accounted for it by matching the volume to the az100s. The differences are minimal when listening to pop (by design?), but for classical and instrument heavy music the pi8's are a tier above. Everything is just much more present in the pi8, whereas the az100 and buds 2 sounded tinny and almost compressed. They're also super comfortable (despite the bulky look in the marketing) and I was able to rest the side of my head on a pillow with them on no issues. And the aptx worked straight out the box with my Galaxy fold 6 (verified in dev settings). Most importantly, they have GREEN!Sure, the pi8 seems to have worse battery, worse ANC, worse software. But at their discounted price, they are a great value if you want quality. I plan to use them for 95% listening to music at home, so the cons were not an issue for me. Plus these don't have the annoying knock-off sounding voice that the az100 has telling you your buds have connected, etc.
4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sound, all else …
So, somehow I found myself on this quest to find the perfect earbuds. After all the usual suspects like Apple AirPod Pro 2, Bose QC Ultra, Sennheiser Momentum TW 4, Denon Perl Pro and others; the Bowers & Wilkins Pi8 joined the crew. Reviews on audiophile websites are mostly very positive. Up to this point, however, the Sennheiser generally won any competition or came in a very close second. Time to dethrone? At 400 the Pi8 are certainly getting into a stratosphere where one simply has to expect the exceptional. Not everyone is an audiophile (or pretends to be). I am not sure where I fall on that spectrum, but the search simply seemed not over even after crowning the both the MTW4 and the Perl Pro as my favorites, while none could ever match the massive functionality in the AirPods Pro 2. I don’t need the Spatial Audio, even if it’s cool at times, and so it happens that none of my favorites have it. Figure that!Anyway, as I previously bought a pre-owned pair of Px8 (over the ear headphones), impressed by their stellar audio performance and delicate materials, a preowned offer of the Pi8 broke my resistance to adding another set of earbuds to my collection ($130 in “savings”). Pre-owned in both cases (thru Bolo) had the side effect that both pairs had to be hard reset as they were paired and not reset. For the Px8 that was easier to figure out than the tiny reset button in the charging case. (The manual does not mention that.) Make sure to press the button well past the orange light.Once reset (blue LED blinking) the app pairs fairly quickly. At this point, no software update is available. The Bowers & Wilkins app offers minimal options. there is an “advanced EQ” (5-band equalizer) and an equally minimal setting for the touch controls. I am no fan of double triple taps and combinations, so this is fine, even if the options are limited. You have no control of which AptX is being used and apparently it’s lossless by default. The storage case is easily the most advanced of any of mine, despite being one of the smaller ones. It does charge the earbuds and itself can be charged via USB-C port (cable) or wireless (Qi). That seems commonplace these days, even if the Bose QC Ultra somehow did not include this feature. (The Bose also have no case charge level reported to the App, while the B&W do.) The B&W, however, have another unique feature since it can be connected to a 3.5 mm audio jack (headphones) like in the airplane entertainment system. If it also had a speaker (like the AirPod case) to find it, it would be perfect. The design is beautiful, both for the case and the earbuds. The sound, however, is the big deal and I must admit that my expectations were high. First stop ANC. It’s good and some say it doesn’t match the Bose. It may be true but it sure isn’t far. I noticed a similar thing with the Sennheiser and the Denon. Just like them, the B&W heavily depend on the seal of the tips to my ear. Find the perfect fit, and the ANC is fairly effective. With (too) high expectations, the sound at first seemed to not deliver. Not sure if it was just the fit of the tips, but a bit later a second attempt (after fully charging) revised that first impression. Yes! These sound great and are surprisingly loud! Whereas I am setting for almost all others the volume to about 70%, the Pi8 are about the same volume at 50%.The differentiation of instruments is nothing short of amazing. Easily the best I encountered so far. It’s not, however, as if the MTW4 are far behind. It’s just that I am starting to understand what reviewers mean by sound signature. It happens to be different between the MTW4 and the Pi8, and that makes it a bit of personal preference. Specifically, the Pi8 seem more pronounced in the upper middle frequencies, which makes them crisp. They also have a good base, and what happens in between apparently is due to signature differences. (There are no tools in the B&W app to find a personal profile like in the MTW4 or the magic Perl Pro.)The excellent sound makes up for the missing features the AirPods Pro are so rich of: conversation awareness, Find my compatibility, head gestures, Spatial Audio, hearing aid … and so on. If you need those, the AirPods are still unmatched. If you insist on the best sound possible, the Pi8 are strong contenders.

Excellent for sound quality, but don’t go for noise cancellation
These headsets are as good as the car version but… sound cancellation is below competitors.I tried all these brands and sound quality reting:1. Bower Wilkins2. Sony3. Apple4. JabraSound cancellation:1. Apple by far2. Jabra3. SonyIf there is a sound cancellation on Bowers and Wilkins I am still looking for it😌For the price it’s worth it on discount it not full price.I rate a 5 for watching tv and movies in silence. In a noisy place you won’t get the quality these headsets bring.
10/10 la calidad de sonido.
Sonido a la altura de B&W. Imagen estéreo de 10.Los graves si requieren de un buen acomodo dentro de la oreja.10/10
I don’t normally write reviews… but these are excellent
I don’t usually write reviews but thought I should in this case. The earbuds are exceptional. Clearly much better quality than AirPods. I own the big brother to these, the Px8 over the ears, and these Pi8 earbuds (with the EQ) sound better imo. I think the Px8 could sound better if B&W would provide a real EQ. Thankfully these (Pi8) does have this option and puts them into a whole different category compared to many others. I wish ANC was up there with AirPod Pros but honestly isn’t bad all the same. If you own an iPhone, you’ll want to use the case as a relay/DAC to get the best sound quality from there buds. The case also functions as a replay for flights - plug in the case via wire to the seat display and listen wireless on your Pi8 earbuds.
Pesimo producto y servicio de soporte, es inexistente.
Dejo de funcionar el audicular derecho y la ventana de devolución se cerro y su soporte es peor que pesimo. Demasiado caro para lo que duro....para nada que lo recomiendo. Me siento robado.
