You can use it by lighting 1-4 wicks but I find 2 works just fine. This helps improve the burn ability and keeps the flame going for longer. It's also a suitable size for the entire back porch. I grabbed the mosquito-repellent candle for my backyard hangouts this spring, and honestly, it’s been a solid addition—but it’s not perfect. First off, I like that it’s DEET-free and made from soy and beeswax with a mix of essential oils like citronella, rosemary, peppermint, and lemongrass. That natural vibe was a big plus for me. It’s hefty—much larger than typical citronella candles—and the tin packaging feels sturdy enough to reuse. The scent is strong in a good way: you can definitely smell the citronella, but it’s softened by lemon balm-type notes that make it more pleasant overall.When lit, the candle burns steadily with four wicks, and I managed a solid 15 hours over a few evenings before the wax level dropped dramatically—so I’m confident it’ll hit close to its advertised 40-hours burn time. It’s great for creating a bug barrier around me and the patio furniture, though I did notice it only keeps mosquitoes at bay in a few-foot radius, so I ended up using two candles when friends were over.What I didn’t love: one candle doesn’t cut it for larger gatherings, and the lid isn’t tight enough to prevent wax spills when I’m carrying it around. Also, while the scent is nice, if you're sensitive or prefer subtler aromas, it might feel a bit strong at first.Anyway, for me it worked well: burns long, smells decent, and helps keep the bugs off while I chill outside. I’d probably give it a solid B+—not perfect, but definitely worth grabbing if you like natural solutions and don’t mind burning through two for bigger hangouts.

This candle is quality through and through. From the huge size and cute tin to the multiple wicks and mild smell. I hesitated getting it, but when it arrived i could tell it was worth the price. You'll need more than one if you have a large entertaining area. For my husband and i, who sit outside in the evening, its perfect to keep the pests away.

When you live in Florida, bugs are pretty much a year-round nuisance.Recently, I attended a music festival where we were outdoors for three days. While I love the event, I do NOT love the bugs. Apparently, this is one sided, as the numerous bug bites I get make it clear that they really LOVE me.Most candles like this one are pretty much ineffective, because they don't use enough citronella oil to make a difference. This one is different, as it has a very strong citronella fragrance and throws very well.I liked the size of this candle, and we burned it for about 15 hours in total. Based on the amount of candle that's left, it's probable that I'll get the advertised 40 hours of burn time out of it.I really like the container, too. It's a lot more sturdy than the glass citronella candles, and easier to store with my camping gear than those big bucket style citronella candles. When you consider that it worked better than those, it's worth the price.For those of you up north, the bugs are coming, you need at least one of these.

I live in the North so the bugs really aren't out yet here so I can't give it a proper test, but I can tell you what I like.Pros:- Large size- 4 wicks for maximum scent being released- It actually smells terrific. Not like those disgusting citronella candles.- packs away nicely with a secure lid.Cons:- None

This candle smells really nice and is larger and more weighty than I expected it to be. It is made from natural materials which is why I wanted to order it. The wax burned slow enough that it will probably last a long time. I tend to attract mosquitos more than the people around me, and the candle works well to keep them away from me when we light it in the evening in the backyard.
