Got this item as a replacement. It's pretty much the same idea but this one has more volume which is great as the amount of ice cream the old one made, everyone always had not-quite-enough but this one, everyone gets what they want and there's even typically enough left over to put in the freezer for later. This is not a small thing as the biggest hassle of making the ice cream is not the ingredients but having to freeze the bucket and later the cleaning. So the more the better.One of the best things about this, other than having ice cream that is better quality than many that are out there is that you can try many different flavors. For example, I like rum raisin but the only one out there is a premium one and now I can make something affordable and with maybe a few less raisins. I recommend learning the recipe which is milk, sugar and cream and then experimenting with that though the manual does contain some other options for those who would like to explore them.Cleanup is fairly straightforward with only the motor section needing extra care to avoid water intrusion.I am pleased with this item.

Haven't been able to get it to actually freeze the ice cream. Kept it in the freezer for a week and used all refrigerated ingredients. Our AC in Florida is set to 74degrees, so I will try to insulate the outside plastic tub because the ice cream maker feels cold on the outside while running and moisture from the air condenses on it. It soaks up the ambient heat in the house. I don't know what the description meant by double insulated because it is not insulated in any way other than a half inch air gap.Update: this is advertised as a two quart ice cream maker and that's what I tried to make, but all the suggested recipes are for only one quart.

I finally got the chance to make vanilla ice cream with my new Dash. It was super easy to use, but the time that you have to freeze the bowl is slightly inconvenient if you are craving ice cream so planning ahead is necessary. I followed the instructions and the ice cream came out a pleasant, softer consistency and looked and tasted delicious. When I took the lid off, the paddle had come off the lid and was disconnected so I am not sure how long it churned for without it. I hope it was a one-time issue. It didn't appear broken, but if it happens again, I would say it is defective. I put both pints in the freezer and we are taking them camping with us. I am looking forward to trying gelato as we always have chicken eggs on hand. Price was decent but not inexpensive at $49.
