Dog claws are murder on my paint, and my dog loves to scratch at the door incessantly until I get there to let her out (y’know, in case I forget as I am literally walking towards her). This is a full millimeter thick, so unlike a lot of these that are just a very thin film, this does actually offer protection against her efforts. It would work well against cat claws, too, if you are trying to protect a specific thing, but I think it would wear out quicker than as a door guard. If you have a very large dog (or a dog with particularly long claws), they might be able to dent the surface underneath this, as it is flexible vinyl not a hard plastic, but it would still at least keep them from scraping the paint.The vinyl is clear, but it smudges pretty easily and my cat’s fur sticks to it like a magnet. The whole thing isn’t adhesive, it comes with a bunch of double sided clear tape dots, so you can use as many or as few as you like. I used 8 (I think it comes with 16) and it works fine, but where my dog scratches is pretty much at the center of the mat. You’d probably need more if your dog or cat catches the edges at all.I’m really happy with this. I just repainted my door, and so adding protection before she can mess up the new paint is great!

Husband followed instructions to put up the door guard. Used extra sticky tabs. We left for about an hour, came home and Louie had completely torn it down off of the door. Crumpled with pieces torn.Do not recommend if your dog is determined to try to scratch the door down to get out of room or house.

Great concept, so-so execution. The plastic protector includes a speckled substance that is impossible to remove entirely. Any attempt I made to remove it resulted in a smudged, cloudy surface that made the door appear unclean. Also, a 16×30 piece only covers a small portion of the area, leaving part of the base, side and mid section of the door exposed. While this may be a big enough hinderence to smaller or less inquisitive dogs, it certainly wasn't enough to stop my large breed pup from simply moving above or to the side of the PVC protector and scratching the exposed area there. In order to prevent this, you would have to order several pieces (they do offer multi-packs), which may not be ideal for a large number of doors. Another issue I found is that using this on a wood door may prevent a scratch, but not necessarily an indentation-just something to consider when purchasing

This is exactly what I was searching for after replacing the storm door. It is thick & sturdy and stays put when my dog gets excitedly scratches at the door. If fact i did not even use the sticky dots to adhere it. I simple placed it on and rubbed it down until it stuck.

This product has worked well for protecting my back door glass from the dog scratching on it. The product is durable and easy to apply overall great quality.

This door protector is a nice thick clear mat that comes with instructions and some mounting stickers. When ours came, it was covered with some sort of debris or dirt all over it and it has been really difficult to remove it all even after several washings. It just makes the surface feel gritty or dirty all the time. Since this came too late for the use I had intended for it and I had already gone with another solution for that area, I've ended up using it as a sort of thick placemat on a side table to protect the wood and it's actually working pretty well for this purpose, of all things.
