Pictures in the ad for the product show adapters that you would use to measure OTDR w/fiber, visual fault testing, etc. This does not have that. The photos imply adapters come with it. The only adapter received was a RJ45 block. Now I need to buy adapters to get the job done.

The Upgraded OTDR optical Fiber Test is an essential tool for anyone either working in that field or wanting to DIY your own home network. Without trying to get to technical, simply put, this thing is a fantastic. It has a graphical interface, which makes adjustments and reading the information relatively simple. The list of what it is capable of doing is very extensive, but a few of the high points are: you can check wavelength, possible breakage points, mapping, and length of the connection. It supports (UTP/STP) connections as well as RJ45. It comes with a very nice case to protect the equipment, and it comes with everything you need to begin testing your equipment. The tester itself looks like a throwback handheld video game console, but it's very well constructed and appears to be as durable as a sensitive piece of equipment can be. Another interesting thing is they send you a verified copy of its calibration sheet to give peace of mind that what you are paying for is as sensitive as they claim. I really look forward to field testing my new expensive toy and really seeing what all it can do. Based on what I've read and from tools I've used in the past, this fiber optic test seems to be a huge step up.This is a very high end tester and is good enough for professional use. It is well worth the money.

It's not a $2,000 tester so you can't expect it to work like one. However, for the price I think it's pretty awesome. It's very small, it's packed with a lot of useful functions. Some of the cable testing features are broken up individually so you can't run one UTP cable test that's going to be all inclusive but that's okay. When it creates a report it is just a screenshot of the results screen, not an actual report per se. The VFL works well, the OTDR seems fairly accurate. The instructions are pretty terrible but with the pictures you can get through it and understand how to work it. There are no fiber adapters included but that's pretty typical. Everything is based on either a SC or ST ferrule and you adapt from that. The case it comes with is nice. Be sure to pull the battery tab out or you won't be able to charge it or use it without it being plugged in.

I got this optical fiber tester for my husband’s work, and while I won’t pretend to understand everything it does, he’s been seriously impressed. He mentioned how rugged and well-built it is. It’s got a nice solid weight to it, and he called it “burly,” which I’ve learned is high praise lol.He said the setup was quick, and the readings are accurate. The touchscreen plus button combo made operation easy, even with gloves (which he appreciated). It’s packed with extra features like RJ45 testing, cable length measuring, power meter functions, and even visual fault location.He said it saves time and makes troubleshooting much more efficient out in the field. I may not know what half the buttons do, but he does, and he’s genuinely impressed. Definitely recommend!

And amazingly there is a lot to know about fiber optics it takes skill to learn how to splice and polish the fiber to get a good connection and this device will tell you how your signal is this is a professional tool and it takes a lot of no how to operate they have came along way from my school years but I still remember a lot this does everything that used to take 3 devices to do what it does and it's to technical to elaborate but I can say it works well and if you need one you will not be disappointed for the cost you can't beat it highly recommend
