I was pretty pleased with this set of student oil pastels. I'm actually used to a much more expensive and smoother pastel, so drawing with this was enjoyably different. They actually feel a lot like beeswax crayons when you're laying down color, and it's very easy to layer and build up colors. My only complaint is that when you try to blend them with your finger or a stump, they tend to crumble up rather than smoothlessly blend. But my understanding is that these are for kids primarily, so you probably wouldn't want them smearing the colors all over the page.For the price point, these are great. They are soft, and tend to break at the point where you hold them, but working with small chunks of pastel is part of the learning process, so don't fret if that happens.

I chose these beautifully colored oil pastels for my 5 year old granddaughter but they broke after one use, rendering them unusable.

These are very competitively priced, so I can't complain about the value. You certainly get your money's worth at the sub-$10 price. These pastels are very soft and smooth, and you'll get bright and vibrant colors out of them. However, that softness means they will go somewhat quickly so you might want 2 sets if you are working on a big studio piece. But then, they are so cheap that buying multiples sets really isn't a problem. If you want the finer lines you get with something like Cray-pas, you will need to rub them down or cut them to shape, but using them smartly should be more than enough to keep the point where you want it.

My girls loved receiving this pastel set! They liked the variety of bright colors, and immediately created some Mothers Day cards using them. You do have to be somewhat gentle with them, as my kids have broken a couple of them in half.But overall, the colors come out good, and its easy to use the storage box it comes in. I also liked that they are not permanent colors.

My son loves to draw and these were a slightly different medium for him to play with, and he loves it. They don't make a big mess on his hands but he has a blast playing with the blending and way they are different from crayons.
