To do so requires a player into a sound card recording each track or an expensive service and I just didn't want to get into all of that. Enter this little jewel with integrated recording to a micro-SD card. Had to try it and I'm glad I did. From the opening of the box, this little player/recorder shows outstanding quality. It comes with a full set of accessories: a 32GB micro-SD card with USB adapter, a charging cable, magnetic-ended earbuds with silicone earpieces of varying sizes, a sheet of cool 'KLIM' stickers and a stylish black envelope embossed from the KLIM Technologies team with support information presented as a graphic novel. Fun stuff and indicative of a company that cares about the customer experience. The player came charged and ready to go. Playing cassettes is conventional. Load it, press PLAY. I thought the sound quality with the included earbuds was excellent when playing good source material on 30+ year old Maxcell and TDK tapes. Between songs there is some low level hiss (normal) but you can crank it during songs and it sounds really good. Dolby encoded tapes were especially bright and enjoyable. As good as it gets for a portable player and old tapes.Recording tapes to micro-SD is easy enough with the levels set automatically. Stereo recording generates .MP3 files at 160Kbps, 44.1KHz sample rate. I recorded several tracks onto the micro-SD and they sounded as good as the tape itself. A cassette-to-SD recording of live jazz exceeded expectaions, sounding great in the earbuds and into our home system with good definition and crisp highs.Recording voice and acoustic guitar with the microphone to SD card at about 18" was a somewhat muffled but sounded OK with the high strings coming through clearly. Good enough for casual use. The mic itself is located in the front, at the lower right of the speaker grille.Playing through the speaker is about what you would expect. Reasonable sound for a small, flat speaker sounding like the old pocket radios of the 60's. Still, it's handy for queuing up tracks to record, quick listens, spoken voice, etc.The SD card in the included USB adapter seamlessly installs as a drive on a Windows computer. Recorded tracks are in the RECORD folder named TAPE001, MIC001 etc. for tape and microphone recordings. Other MP3 and WMA tracks can be copied to the SD into other folders to play as desired.Battery life seems fine. I've recorded and played several C-90s, guitar tracks, MP3 and WMA tracks copied from computer to SD card and it still shows nearly full on the charge it came with. I like the manual, mechanical power switch.Do take care with the magnetic earbud ends around your tapes. The magnets are strong enough to erase sections of recordings. What could be better:Recording tape to SD does not detect quiet between tracks to separate songs into individual files. I just let it run and split it up in an audio editor but its an extra step. The file and user interface has a few areas that I did not find intuitive. Notably when the SD card is installed, it really wants to start playing from it whenever the power is turned on or the tape stops. You have to hit PAUSE/STOP manually each time. The manual recommends removing the SD card when not specifically using it.Recording multiple tracks with the microphone requires some extra button pushing to get it to stop playing and be ready to record. The SD card can store multiple folders selectable with short taps on the FOLDER button but the display is numeric only and can't display any names requiring some patience to find what you want to play. Still, the manual is pretty good at explaining all of this and you get used to it.It would be nice to have a case and/or strap attachment. But all in all, I am delighted with this little unit. Some long-lost kid tracks and other forgotten stuff have surfaced in that old box of cassettes. Time to get busy.Highly recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Test driven by my 15 year old who gives this a thumbs up

    T.A. · June 3, 2025

My fifteen year old son is really into music, as in, really into it. Not only listening to it, but making it, and modeling his fashion sense on musicians whose work contains questionable lyrics. He collects vinyl and is also into cassettes. I regret getting rid of all my cassettes back in the day, all those special mix tapes we'd make for each other, recordings of my friends and I talking and laughing together. I could have converted those now and shared them digitally. What a shame. We genuinely believed that cassette players were obsolete, same for CD players and Vinyl, and now all of this stuff is coming back right?I gave this to my son to test drive because he's tech savvy and uses equipment like this, so his perspective is going to be far more useful than mine. But before I hand this over to him, I personally really appreciated (because it's the parents that pay for this stuff right?) that this came with everything you need - including an SD card, and SD card reader, earphones and a microphone. No need to get this and then have to buy extra bits to get it to work. For this price that feels like a good deal. Even more so when my son told me that it's a good piece of kit.OK, so here's his take: "This player is for recording tape onto SD not for recording SD onto tape. The headphones work but are a little light on the base. The built in microphone is surprisingly good. The SD card works and doesn't compress sound too much. The sound quality is pretty good."Short and sweet - much like our conversations with each other. When I handled this it also feels solid and nicely made and it arrived well packaged too and with instructions. Also a nice touch that they include spare earphone and microphone covers. It points to a company that puts care and effort into their product rather than just blanket mass production. We haven't been using this long enough to speak to it's longevity however (as always) I do update my reviews if and when things change.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works well, converts to MP3, instructions could be clearer

I have some very old cassette tapes that I would like to be able to listen to. I’m frankly amazed that they haven’t completely oxidized over the years, but they are playable. This little cassette player works well with my old tapes. You do have to use wired earphones to listen to them through the machine – no Bluetooth. The sound quality is as good as you could expect to get from an ancient cassette. Where I got hung up was converting a tape to MP3 and then transferring it to my laptop. The directions didn’t explain that the little flash drive included in the box is a converter. The card slot on the flash drive is so small that I didn’t notice it right away, and I actually wondered why there was a USB drive in the box. Eventually, I realized you can transfer songs from the tape to the SD card that fits in the cassette player (that part is explained well), and then you can use the flash drive converter to transfer the MP3 files to your other device. It’s tedious but very easy once you know what you’re doing. This is an awesome little machine. It only loses a start for the incomplete instructions about transferring files.

Well presented, very useful for intended task

Having a built in lithium battery is very useful as it's simply chargeable via USBC and no more eating through AA Batteries. No only allowing stereo playback of cassettes via the unit, the built in Micro SD function can record the tape playback to MP3, can playback MP3 on the device (doubling up as a music/audio player that way) but also, which I didn't realise on order, the unit appears to have a built in microphone, allowing you to record straight to SD card too.The unit also has a handy LCD display which has a white backlight.Receiving the unit made me listen to - and convert - the GCSE German Speaking exam I'd stashed in various drawers and boxes over the years! Worth it for that alone, listening to what I apparently did on holiday the best part of 25 years ago in broken (but A*) German.

    Etwas überfrachtet

    m. · June 10, 2025

Super consigliato.

Its an easy way to rescue old tapes - I did 3 last night without much bother

    t.b.u.2. · June 2, 2025

I tested this Cassette to Digital Converter DeviceHere's what I found...Pros ✅ This is a great solution to the problem of what to do with old cassette recordings. We have loads of audiobooks and music tapes that never got used since cars stopped having cassette decks included.✅ this one works well, recording to a built-in micro-SD slot (for which you get a free card with the device). It is pretty much a "start and forget" device -- I did 3 tapes last night without much bother✅ the volume controls only change the speaker and does not affect the recording levels - so you can start a recording, check the sound, then turn down and leave the tape to run its course while you work.✅ the recorder can be powered by battery or by USB-C. I use my android phone charger.✅ it comes with a USB adapter for the computer. I upload to iTunes and can "trim" recordings to the correct length easily, or even split into tracks and then rename.✅ Headphones connect via a standard 3.5mm jack - so highly compatibleCons 👉 The speaker isn't great, but I expected that.👉 As soon as you stop the casette, the digital recording plays back. I can't find any way to turn that off!👉 Like all cassettes, the variable friction in the casettes means there is "wow and flutter" in the recording. For audiobooks and fast music this is no bother, but for slow classical music this can be irritating. This is inherent to cassettes, so not surprising. That's why CDs took over !👉 It is made of plastic - so I worry that it isn't robust. I use mine only at home to transfer our cassettes rather than use as a "walkman".OVERALL - I like this - and would be happy to get it again.VALUE - If you have a big casette collection, this is a great way to "unlock" valuable recordings and get them back into use. This is launched at £41.99 in June 2025, but do check the price as competition between sellers works fast on Bolo marketplace. A search today for "Cassette to Digital Converter" showed >700 options, many at lower prices (but not with the same facilities as this brand, such as the LCD screen).Delivery was quick - it came the next day which is great service by the store. If this fails inside 2 years I will be back to update my review. Was this a help?
