I’ve cooked pizzas professionally, and at home for a few years and used lots of indoor and outdoor equipment for pizza making. The lagute pizza oven delivers solid results at a pretty decent price point. As far as being a smart oven, there are options for Neapolitan, plate, pizza, New York, thin and crispy, frozen, or DIY/manual. More of a pizza with preset features than a smart oven. The user interface could be improved. There’s no clear start feature and the design isn’t all that intuitive but T/C is the start button for time/cook, and then the dials on the side are for time and temp adjustment.I did my initial burn off period for about an hour and a half. Instructions say 20-30 minutes but I still smelled residue and saw smoke. I did it for an hour without the stone, then an hour with the stone. I chose to do this outside because of the smell. As far as performance, the oven did crank to high 700s and heated up relatively quickly; about 15 minutes. I made a standard Neapolitan style dough. Results were good and I assume will get better the more it’s used and seasoned to improve color and leopard spotting. Also, the preset 1:30 minutes was not enough to cook a full pizza; took more like 4 minutes. Check photos for results. The oven got warm to the touch externally but didn’t get over 95 degrees, so I’m comfortable using this inside on my counter tops or a cutting board. That being said, anytime you open the door; there is a substantial amount of smoke that did set off my smoke detectors even with the windows open. Users in apartments should especially be aware of this. Ideally used under a range hood, or with an open window. This just comes with the territory of high heat meats fat from olive oil, cheese or meats; but worth noting, especially for new users.Overall, I’m pretty pleased with the performance and results of the lagute pizza oven. The user interface could be tweaked and improved, but overall it’s a pretty good piece of equipment for the price point.
5.0 out of 5 stars Game changer for pizza night!
This thing is insane. I can make home made pizza so quick, but it's a real game changer for just a frozen pizza too! this thing gets INSANELY hot, so be careful about where you put it and be careful using it. I have no fear that it will do damage to the house, but don't keep plastic too close!
4.0 out of 5 stars Nice enhancement to pizza arsenal but there are issues
The media could not be loaded. I am an experienced pizza cook with about 10 yrs of successes and failures. I make pizza from scratch at least once a week, cooking on either a pizza stone or steel on our grill, because the grill cooks hotter/faster than our home oven.I found that there is a lot to like about this pizza oven:- Includes both the pizza stone and peel/shovel. Peel has collapsible handle for easy storage.- Multiple presets for various types of pizza- Fits 12” pizza, so most frozen pizzas will fit as well as store bought pre-made crusts- Square 12” cooking surface makes it possible to replace pizza stone (as needed/desired) or swap stone for a pizza steel (easier to keep clean and doesn’t stain from long-term use)- Homemade pizzas cooked evenly between top and bottom; no burning on bottomWhat isn’t so great:- The odor from the “burn off” permeated my stone and can still be smelled in the cooking chamber- The oven is large (17x19x11), and heavy, like a microwave so not easy to store or move- My oven had deep scratches between the door/face and the oven box when it arrived- My display panel went black and would not turn back on/respond while I was adjusting temperature settings. Had to unplug and re-plug oven to make the display work again.- Information about the “smart” preset options is lacking- There is no information/setting for re-heating pizza (almost everyone who eats pizza will want to re-heat slices or whole pizzas at some point). Note it is possible that the “plate pizza” setting is intended for this, because I have no idea what this option meant.Tips:- I highly recommend doing the burn-off cycle(s) outdoors, without the pizza stone. Note I ended up having to do over 9 hours of burning off cycles before the smoking ceased.- Plan to begin pre-heating the oven at least 30 minutes prior to baking pizzas; plan to watch cooking pizzas to avoid burning; plan for the wait while oven re-heats between pizzas.- Use white vinegar to remove fingerprints from the display or knobs and as a non toxic cleaner for greasy spatters and smoky residue in the cooking chamber- The exterior of the oven (particularly the back) can get very hot, so do not attempt to touch or move the oven for at least a couple hours after use, and ensure sufficient clearance from the back for anything that could melt or burn- Acquire heat protective gloves, an infrared thermometer and a pizza oven brush/scraper combo to remove baked on debris from your fully cold stone before/between uses. Never put soap or vinegar on the stone, and only use a minimal amount of water (think damp, not wet), always allowing the stone to fully air dry before next use/heating. Be prepared that the stone will stain and change color and that you’ll need to periodically clean the interior of the chamber (sides/walls, burners) to carefully remove baked on debris.Overall:This is a good piece of technology to own if you love pizza, but I plan to replace the stone because I don’t know what caused the odor and smoke during the burn-off process and if the stuff that burned off could be harmful given that it permeated/remains embedded in my stone.
4.0 out of 5 stars Large appliance
The machine is pretty large but it functions pretty well.Highlights:• recipes included• everything you'll need for the machine included• specialized for making pizzas so less worries than with a conventional oven• you can add time while cooking• window allows you to check on the progressLess favorable details:• first time use will have a lot of smoke with a heavy new heater scent that will take a while to dissipate• not space saver friendly• very hot after use so it'll need time if you intend to move it after use to free up space again• you'll need to add more time for frozen pizzas as it doesn't seem to cook the same as a conventional oven• no cleaning tool for the stone which is important since you can't use soap to clean itOverall, its a nice oven for making pizzas but i think it has some room for improvement.
