My Husband and I Sleep in a Coffin (Novel) Vol. 1

Description:

A cozy coffin for two becomes one recluse’s reality when he wakes up in the frigid body of a thousand-year-old corpse! Can he find his footing in this new body? Even then, can he survive the passionate doting of his handsome—and quite unhinged—coffinmate?

Wang Xiaomie, a reclusive gay virgin, wakes up to a shocking reality: he now inhabits the body of a thousand-year-old corpse, dressed in elaborate wedding attire. Even more bizarre, he finds himself sharing a coffin with Wen Fengjin, an immortal warrior who has spent centuries waiting for the return of his lost lover!

Now trapped in a lavish mausoleum, undead and constantly ravenous, Wang Xiaomie’s only source of sustenance is a magical peach blossom tree that keeps his heart beating. But survival isn’t the only challenge—he must also avoid grave robbers and, more troubling still, conceal his growing attraction to the hot, yet utterly unhinged, immortal who will stop at nothing—even murder—to protect his beloved.

It had familiar vibes to other system/reincarnation novels with its own spin. Story was well written, any point of view other than the MC it would probably read like a horror, but from MCs POV it was funny, cute and wholesome.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read.

This was a super fun book. It balanced really funny dialogue with some nice main character moral grayness. I really enjoyed it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Light hearted horror?

M.R. · September 13, 2025

Though my standards may differ from others, there a certainly elements for it to be scary but I just couldn't bring myself to believe our main lead was ever in danger. The only point in the story were the horror really sunk in it wasn't doing much because it wasn't a character I cared about being hunted for sport. Light hearted... compared to other Danmei I've read. Well written, not as creepy as others I've read without horror in the tags. Maybe it'll get scarier in the second volume but I hope not.

5.0 out of 5 stars What's a danmei without a good coffin?

This book was wild. The main character, Wang Xiaomie,is Isekai’d/reincarnated into the body of a reanimated corpse. He was resurrectedthrough the tireless efforts of his devoted lover, Wen Fengjin, who isessentially the type of character one would expect to be the final villain. Helives in an underground mausoleum, surrounded by creepy monsters of his owncreation. Furthermore, throughout the story, we keep getting hints that Fengjinis hiding his true self from an oblivious Xiaomie, who happily takes everythinghe is told on face value. Xiaomie believes he has it all: a husband who adoreshim, a carefree life, and an immortal body. However, as tomb raiders sneak intothe underground lair, there are more and more clues hinting that both Fengjinand their past relationship are not what they seem. This was a lighthearted andfun read, packed with humor and hijinks.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not an engaging read

If you're chasing the high of something that really engages you (we all have that one danmei that hooks us) this one i would skip. The humor is very plain - obvious and glaring, not funny. There was one scene where a woman refused to go into a tent that was green because she "would never wear a green hat"??? but she is supposed to be a strong female character who isn't to be taken as a joke. The story idea isn't bad in itself, but the mysteries are handed to you, and things that could have made a great story are presented too soon and matter-of-fact. I was expecting a young man who woke up terrified, ran from a literal zombie man, then found himself decaying from being too far from the tree. Then having to somehow get his hands on the blossoms and travel with them for sustenance, dodging grave robbers and his crazy tomb companion. Rather, he accepts his fate way too easily, and all he needs is a handsome face to make him okay with the whole situation. It's just not real. I feel like the characters are just place-holders for the plot. they feel like actors. I've been looking forward to this book for a whole year. Very disappointed.

For a book that’s supposed to be a comedy, there is a disappointing lack of it. It reads like a fanfiction written by a middle schooler. A lot of the “comedy” comes from the main character, Wang Xiaomei, acting hyperactive. There are also multiple scenes of the main character having diarrhea, which is written to be “comedic”, but it comes off as incredibly weird and awkward. Wang Xiaomei extremely annoying and I found him to be pretty unbearable. The best parts of this book are when the POV changes to Wen Fengjin. He is definitely the worst part of this book. The only positive thing that I will say about this book is that the internal art is gorgeous. Too bad it was wasted on this novel. This book would’ve been good under a better author, since the lore/ideas within this novel aren’t bad. Unfortunately, this book was stuck with this author. If you have the humor of a thirteen year old, then you’ll probably enjoy this novel.

I'm loving this book!
