Electrical Motor Controls: Automated Industrial System by Japhet K. Lagat is an extremely detailed and practical book for anyone dealing with electrical motor control and automation systems. It covers everything from basic principles to advanced industrial control mechanisms.I was particularly impressed by the clear explanation of relay technology. “A relay consists of a coil that, when energized, generates a magnetic field and closes the contacts”. The book’s detailed circuit diagrams are incredibly helpful for understanding these systems.Safety is also well addressed. It explains how phase-failure relays can prevent damage caused by voltage fluctuations.I give this book 5 stars because it is an invaluable resource for both beginners and experienced engineers. The combination of detailed diagrams and real-world examples makes it a must-have for anyone working with electrical motor control systems.

The author provides a good, easy-to-follow overview of electrical motor controls. The information is written so that readers who do not have much experience with electrical motors can comprehend it. The diagrams provided throughout the book were very helpful in demonstrating concepts. This would be a decent book for a beginner to read. There are a few formatting tweaks that could help. The D at the beginning of a heading at position 528 should be displayed in bold font. Also, the About the Author section blends with the final section in the book. Adding references for additional resources would be of tremendous help to the reader.
Don’t bother.
If you’re looking for a comprehensive and well put together text on motor control circuits and automation, this isn’t it. But if you’re looking for a load of bullet points on all the different types of contactors, relays, breakers and capacitors in existence etc… with some diagrams that look like they were made in MSPaint and then awkwardly resized, then this is for you. Basic AF.
