5.0 out of 5 stars Hartnett kills

M. · June 26, 2025

Never mind the divisive chatter about this film. It’s Shyamalan so there are flaws. But the preposterous concept, zillion improbabilities, tongue in cheek dialogue all go to show M Night is having a ball making this one. And Hartnett is all in. He walks the fine line between sinister and charming. Doting dad slices and dices his victims as The Butcher, serial killer. Tho Night’s daughter Saleka is a talented musician, she’s not so great an actor. But she doesn’t drag the movie down. People trashing the film for not being realistic miss the whole point. It’s camp. It’s a take off on traditional killer thriller genre. It’s over the top everything and it’s funny. Not lol but clever. Hubs and I watched it twice in theater and bought it. It def delivers more on a rewatch. And Hartnett kills the role! It’s his character holding the film together, leading us on his journey from psychopath to sensitive dad. Then the last scene when we see him… no spoiler! There are a lot of us cheering his success—and hoping for a sequel! And the scene mid credits remind us that this is, when all is said and done, a fun ride. We give it 4*/5* as a dark comedy, something new for Shyamalan.

Fantastic movie! Worth owning. I watch it over and over again. You spend the movie not sure if you hope for him to escape or hope he gets caught. What will he try next? Some things you can guess, but some things you can't; which is what I love about this movie. It is not as predictable as you imagine. I normally don't say this, but...I hope they make a sequel.

Trap is a gripping psychological thriller that masterfully blends suspense, mystery, and unexpected twists. With its minimalist setting and tightly wound narrative, it keeps viewers on the edge of their seats from start to finish. What Stood Out:Claustrophobic Atmosphere: The film’s confined setting amplifies the tension, making every scene feel intense and unnerving. It’s a perfect example of how limited spaces can heighten suspense.Strong Lead Performance: [Lead actor/actress] delivers an emotionally raw and compelling performance, drawing the audience into their character's fear, desperation, and determination.Unpredictable Plot: Just when you think you’ve figured it out, the movie takes another turn. The layers of mystery and psychological manipulation are expertly handled, keeping you hooked until the final reveal.Creative Storytelling: The film manages to explore themes of survival, trust, and the human psyche without relying on overused tropes, making it stand out in its genre. What Could Be Better:Pacing Issues: Some slower moments might feel like filler, slightly breaking the otherwise relentless tension.Underexplored Backstory: While the focus on the immediate situation works well, a deeper dive into the characters’ backgrounds could have added even more emotional weight to the story.Final Thoughts:Trap is an intense and thought-provoking thriller that excels at creating a sense of dread and unpredictability. With its strong performances and gripping twists, it’s a must-watch for fans of psychological dramas. While not flawless, it’s a captivating experience that will leave you thinking long after the credits roll. 4/5 stars.

1.0 out of 5 stars don't bother unless you'e in the mood to wallow in stupidity

I had some extra Bolo credits to use to buy something with, and this seemed like the best option. Oh boy. It's a good thing I was using monopoly money or I'd be mad.Oh by the way this is full of spoilers but you can regard them as fair warning. The Philadelphia police department assigns hundreds of its officers (no other crimes happening that day?) to trapping a possible serial killer in a concert venue filled with thousands of adolescent girls. I'm sure their parents will be thrilled to see the news reports about how the police department risked their safety. There won't be any political blowback there. Nope. The cops and SWAT teams are incredibly obvious and make zero effort to look like normal concert security, thus tipping off the serial killer for no good reason.Apparently all the employees of the concert venue were told about the serial killer trap in advance and told to be quiet about it. These are a bunch of minimum wage workers in food service etc. Do you really think they're so in love with their jobs that some wouldn't just chuck their employment prospects for the glory of tweeting I'M TRAPPED WITH A SERIAL KILLER OMG LOL CRISPY!!!!There are too many conveniences and coincidences to recite that helped the serial killer evade the cops and SWAT teams but my favorite is when he blunders across the uncle of the headlining singer and tells him a sob story about his kid having cancer in order to get backstage. Like nobody would have tried that one before? The serial killer ends up in the singer's limo, who now knows he's a killer. He (stupidly) asks to be dropped off at his car. She (amazingly stupidly) doesn't say YES of course and then call the cops while also texting them a photo of his license plate while he's driving away. The cops would have been in his driveway when he arrived. But no, we need to insert the singer into the plot for no good reason because she's M Night Shyamalan's daughter and by the way, her acting is atrocious and made me wish the serial killer would just knock her off but instead she locks herself in the bathroom with his phone, plus hers, plus probably the daughter's too, and yet fails to CALL 911 YOU IDIOT.And then there's the final idiocy with the kid's bike and since when do cops allow serial killers to hug their daughter on the way to the paddy wagon?

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth the money.
