I ordered the BluRay, and it played perfectly on my equipment, despite some others having problems. Perhaps there was a problem with the initial production run?The story is set in 1980s New York, populated by various anthropomorphic animals. Even if you've never been to New York, you'll recognize many landmarks that you've seen in movies, TV shows, postcards, etc. There is also a lot of product placement, with many name brands prominently displayed, adding to the realism.The animation is first rate, cleanly drawn and moving fluidly. The environment is very highly detailed, somewhat similar to Japanese Anime, but a different style. There is no dialog at all, but some exclamatory sounds ("Ah!", etc) and plenty of sound effects (microwave ovens, traffic, footsteps, waves, trains, etc). The faces of the various characters are very expressive.(Spoilers follow) The story involves a lonely and bored dog who orders a robot companion through a TV infomercial. He assembles the robot from a box similar to furniture from Ikea, and they have a couple of days of adventures, until he takes the robot to the beach and plays in the ocean. Afterward they lay on the beach and enjoy the warm sunshine....at the end of the day, the robot is rusted and cannot move. The dog isn't strong enough to carry the heavy robot home, so is forced to abandon it on the beach. He tries to come back and rescue the robot, but the beach is closed for the season. The rest of the movie involves what the dog does to pass the time until the beach reopens, as well as the dreams the robot has while laying immobile on the sand, and what eventually happens to him.The story can be interpreted as an allegory about our first experience with love, and how often, that doesn't last for one reason or another, but we retain warm memories of that person.Highly recommended. I can't think why anyone wouldn't enjoy this charming story.

An amazing movie done with incredible love for 1980s New York. Every detail was just perfect. I was there and I remember many of the street scenes he captured.Slight spoilers ahead so stop here if you don’t want to know anything about the movie. As the title suggests, the movie is really about the robot and his experiences. In the beginning, we meetdog, the character’s only name and he’s not really very interesting. He’s just a typical 25 to 30-year-old resident of New York trying to fit in. Dog has social issues and they include his long-term relationship with Robot. So go watch it enjoy New York City. Enjoy the character of Dog and especially enjoy the many incredible adventures of Robot!

This film has no dialogue but it doesn't need it. That's what's so special about it. If you have ever watched a film/show in which the pictures say a thousand words (like Genndy Tartakovsky's Primal or Samurai Jack (ep.1) then this is the film for you! The heartfelt story of a dog and his "best friend" will tug at your heart strings and leave you like a sopping rag on the floor (I cried like 3 times!). It was a worthy runner up at the Academy Awards to Miyasaki's Heron Boy. Worth every second!!! I eventually bought it after my rental on Prime.

The animated feature is a marvelous adaptation of the book Robot Dreams by Sara Varon. I saw the movie first and fell n love with the characters, Robot and Dog, who bought and assembled Robot from a kit because he so wanted a friend.The film does a great job capturing the settings—urban streets, the beach at Coney Island—and the interior lives of the two friends. What’s wonderful are the differences between the two media—animation and book with cartoon panels—in exploring the character’ emotions without using dialogue or text. Buy the video and the book for a complete experience.

As stated in the title an intriguing story especially how each character goes through an emotional odyssey being separated till later at the…………Sorry No Spoilers 🤣 but is very emotional 🥹😭.The only I was surprised was that there was no Voice no dialogue, to say the least an animated semi silent film. All in all an epic Movie to have in your movie library regardless of anything else.

Robot Dreams is probably the best movie I watched this year. It moved me more than I ever thought it would of and if you love animated films in the vain of Iron Giant, Wall-E, or even recently the Wild Robot you really should pick this up!Now the problems don't lie in the movie or even in the bonus features of the film, but it's quality and packaging. This disc has a some very strange authoring issues mainly in the banding you will often see especially on darker scenes. Thankfully unlike the UK release this is uncensored so you can enjoy robots joyfully flicking you off all day, but the excessive banding and sometimes even excessive blocking are very unfortunate.The packaging of this disc was a very standard and cheap Blu-Ray case with a very basic cover with a screenshot of the film with a different background edited on which imo I think this film deserves more. The UK Blu-Ray release has a much nicer cover art with a thicker more quality case and even a beautiful reversible cover which is absent here. Also a flaw with the cheap case was I had to get a replacement for my Blu-ray since it initially was shipped to the wrong county. Both Blu-Rays I received the disc was loose in the package and had scratches and finger prints.It's rather unfortunate that there are so many flaws with this release because it's really all I can suggest to people within the US who don't want to import. I would give this a much lower rating, but I think the film is so good this should be purchased regardless. For those who can't ignore these flaws understandably the German Blu-Ray is uncensored and the UK release has fantastic packaging so there are more options.

Juni kommt, kehrt Dog an den Strand zurück, kann aber nur Robots weggeworfenes Bein finden. Bei seiner Suche wird er rausgeschmissen, weil er viele große Löcher in den Sand gemacht hat. Er verbringt die Nacht zu Hause im Bett mit Robots Bein. Später besucht ein Waschbär namens Rascal den Schrottplatz und entdeckt Robots Kopf und verbliebene Gliedmaßen. Er kauft die Teile und nimmt sie mit nach Hause, um Robot mit einem Boombox-Körper als neuem Körper wieder aufzubauen. In der Zwischenzeit kauft Dog einen neuen Roboterfreund namens Tin. Im Laufe des Sommers schließen Robot und Rascal eine enge Freundschaft, ebenso wie Dog und Tin. Dog geht mit Tin an den Strand und lernt aus seinen Fehlern der Vergangenheit, sprüht Tin mit Ölspray ein und hält ihn vom Wasser fern. Während Robot und Rascal auf dem Dach zu Mittag essen, schaut Robot hinaus und sieht Dog und Tin den Bürgersteig entlanggehen. Robot rennt die Straße hinunter und schafft es, sich mit Dog wieder zu vereinen, aber plötzlich taucht Rascal auf und enthüllt, dass dieses Wiedersehen nur eine weitere Fantasie von Robot war. In Wirklichkeit beschließt Robot, Dog nicht hinterherzulaufen, sondern spielt stattdessen mit seinem Boombox-Körper das Lied „September“. Dog hört das Lied und das Paar tanzt (ohne dass Dog es weiß) ein letztes Mal zusammen dazu. Dog bemerkt Robot aus den Augenwinkeln, aber Robot versteckt sich und überlegt, ob er sich offenbaren soll. Als Robot erkennt, dass sowohl er als auch Dog nach ihrer Trennung neue, bedeutungsvolle Beziehungen gefunden haben, entscheidet er sich dagegen, sich zu offenbaren, damit Dog mit Tin weitermachen kann. Tin bemerkt Dogs Traurigkeit und muntert ihn sofort auf, während die beiden Seite an Seite die Straße entlang tanzen. Robot kehrt dann glücklich zu Rascals Mittagessen zurück und die beiden tanzen gemeinsam auf dem Dach...Eine wunderschöne Geschichte, die völlig zu Recht mit vielen Preisen ausgezeichnet wurde. Eine bzw. zwei ungewöhnliche Liebesgeschichten in der Metropole New York. Sogar die unvergessene Filmszene aus dem Woody Allen Film "Manhattan", in der die Verliebten Woody Allen und Diane Keaton, auf einer Bank sitzen und einen grandiosen Blick auf die Queensboro Bridge haben, hat Berger in seinem famosen Großstadtmärchen wieder aufleben lassen. Auch das Lebensgefühl in der Stadt, die niemals schläft, ist perfekt eingefangen. Dieser Schmelztiegel mit seinen diversen Graffitis, den Breakdancern, dem Central Park, dem World Trade Center und den vielen Ständen, in denen Pizza oder Hot Dogs verkauft werden. Alles lebt und auf der anderen Seite ist aber die Einsamkeit in diesen Metropolen allgegenwärtig.

Sie wachen auf, nachdem alle anderen Besucher gegangen sind, und Dog erkennt, dass Robot vom Wasser verrostet ist und sich daher nicht bewegen kann; ein entmutigter Dog ist gezwungen, für die Nacht nach Hause zu gehen. Dog kommt am nächsten Tag mit Reparaturwerkzeugen zurück, nur um festzustellen, dass der Strand bis zum 1. Juni des folgenden Jahres geschlossen ist. Nach einigen fehlgeschlagenen Versuchen, an den Strand zu gelangen, gibt Dog nach und wartet, bis er Robot im nächsten Jahr retten kann, und hängt eine Notiz an seinen Kühlschrank, um ihn ständig daran zu erinnern. Während Robots Zeit am Strand träumt er von verschiedenen Szenarien, in denen er es schafft, vom Strand zu entkommen und zu Dogs Wohnung zurückzukehren, nur um schließlich wieder in die Realität zurückzukehren, in der er am Strand festsitzt. Eins von Robots Beinen wird von einigen Kaninchen abgetrennt, die einen Teil davon verwenden, um ein Loch in ihrem sinkenden Boot zu füllen, bevor sie das Bein wegwerfen. Währenddessen grübelt Dog über Robot nach, da er ständig an Robot erinnert wird und Schwierigkeiten hat, neue Freunde zu finden. Ein Affe schleicht sich an den Strand und findet mit seinem Metalldetektor den vergrabenen Robot. Der Affe bringt Robot zu einem Schrottplatz, um ihn zu verkaufen. Der Alligatorbesitzer und sein Sohn werfen Robot umgehend auf einen Schrotthaufen, wodurch Robot in Stücke zerbricht und er sich abschottet. Als schließlich der 1. Juni kommt, kehrt Dog an den Strand zurück, kann aber nur Robots weggeworfenes Bein finden. Bei seiner Suche wird er rausgeschmissen, weil er viele große Löcher in den Sand gemacht hat. Er verbringt die Nacht zu Hause im Bett mit Robots Bein. Später besucht ein Waschbär namens Rascal den Schrottplatz und entdeckt Robots Kopf und verbliebene Gliedmaßen. Er kauft die Teile und nimmt sie mit nach Hause, um Robot mit einem Boombox-Körper als neuem Körper wieder aufzubauen. In der Zwischenzeit kauft Dog einen neuen Roboterfreund namens Tin. Im Laufe des Sommers schließen Robot und Rascal eine enge Freundschaft, ebenso wie Dog und Tin. Dog geht mit Tin an den Strand und lernt aus seinen Fehlern der Vergangenheit, sprüht Tin mit Ölspray ein und hält ihn vom Wasser fern. Während Robot und Rascal auf dem Dach zu Mittag essen, schaut Robot hinaus und sieht Dog und Tin den Bürgersteig entlanggehen. Robot rennt die Straße hinunter und schafft es, sich mit Dog wieder zu vereinen, aber plötzlich taucht Rascal auf und enthüllt, dass dieses Wiedersehen nur eine weitere Fantasie von Robot war. In Wirklichkeit beschließt Robot, Dog nicht hinterherzulaufen, sondern spielt stattdessen mit seinem Boombox-Körper das Lied „September“. Dog hört das Lied und das Paar tanzt (ohne dass Dog es weiß) ein letztes Mal zusammen dazu. Dog bemerkt Robot aus den Augenwinkeln, aber Robot versteckt sich und überlegt, ob er sich offenbaren soll. Als Robot erkennt, dass sowohl er als auch Dog nach ihrer Trennung neue, bedeutungsvolle Beziehungen gefunden haben, entscheidet er sich dagegen, sich zu offenbaren, damit Dog mit Tin weitermachen kann. Tin bemerkt Dogs Traurigkeit und muntert ihn sofort auf, während die beiden Seite an Seite die Straße entlang tanzen. Robot kehrt dann glücklich zu Rascals Mittagessen zurück und die beiden tanzen gemeinsam auf dem Dach...Eine wunderschöne Geschichte, die völlig zu Recht mit vielen Preisen ausgezeichnet wurde. Eine bzw. zwei ungewöhnliche Liebesgeschichten in der Metropole New York. Sogar die unvergessene Filmszene aus dem Woody Allen Film "Manhattan", in der die Verliebten Woody Allen und Diane Keaton, auf einer Bank sitzen und einen grandiosen Blick auf die Queensboro Bridge haben, hat Berger in seinem famosen Großstadtmärchen wieder aufleben lassen. Auch das Lebensgefühl in der Stadt, die niemals schläft, ist perfekt eingefangen. Dieser Schmelztiegel mit seinen diversen Graffitis, den Breakdancern, dem Central Park, dem World Trade Center und den vielen Ständen, in denen Pizza oder Hot Dogs verkauft werden. Alles lebt und auf der anderen Seite ist aber die Einsamkeit in diesen Metropolen allgegenwärtig.

La película llegó a tiempo y en buen estado. La película es muy emotiva, su animación es muy buena,tal vez algo larga, pero aún así es muy disfrutable.

Der Film vereint eine tiefgreifende und wendungsreiche Geschichte mit detailverliebter Animation. Obwohl keine Dialoge fallen, nimmt uns die Geschichte in seinen Bann und lässt uns mit seinen Hauptcharakteren „Dog“ und „Robot“ mitfühlen, -fiebern und -lachen.Ein schönes Filmerlebnis für Jung und Alt, das in seiner Botschaft um Freundschaft und Lebenswege originell, zugleich auch universal bleibt und sich vor Disney- oder Ghibliproduktionen nicht zu verstecken braucht!
