First off, I'm knocking off a star for the less-than-stellar documentation (such as the only MQTT example on the wiki page being for using their cloud-based solution) and needing to be configured utilizing the slightly sketchy VirCom software.Aside from that, though, this is a lovely little bit of hardware that's not really any more expensive than a Raspberry Pi or Arduino once you consider the extras you'd need to buy for the same functionality. Once you've connected it to an MQTT server, you can send it commands from anywhere on the network, and while you do need to send a command to poll the inputs, it's easy enough to automate that to have the inputs visible to anybody on the network who is interested as well.And since everything can be powered by a single POE cable, you can pretty easily set up a button panel to control your smart home stuff from anywhere you can get a POE cable without needing to worry about things like Wifi. I think you might even be able to power some LED's off the COM port in conjunction with the relays for some status lights (COM seems to output ~5v when running off POE), but I don't know how much amperage it outputs so that's very much a try at your own risk kind of deal.It's kind of a pain figuring out how to set it up and use it, but once you're past that, having network attached inputs/relays is pretty handy if you have a use for that sort of thing.

Setting it up can be challenging.
The media could not be loaded. This is a great device, although it may not be easy to set up for someone who has never dealt with this type of equipment or the Modbus protocol. However, you can download the required software from a website, and there are excellent tutorials available from Waveshare Wiki website that explain how to set this device up properly. Once set up, it works perfectly.I’m using it as a garage door opener, and it functions flawlessly. It features a great function that allows you to link the input with a relay, enabling operation without any additional software. However, as I did, you can integrate it through Modbus into Home Assistant and connect it to your Apple HomeKit, giving you remote control of the device. I highly recommend it!

Bad documentation. Product OK but not useful.
Firstly, product has terrible documentation. Difficult to read and understand, you have to scour through the internet, reviews and forum to find actual useful information to get it set up. Fair enough, it's a Chinese company. But they also don't reply to any emails, and the supplied dodgy software (Vircom) only works on windows so it's a major hassle if you don't have a PC.I wanted this item for digital control plus a manual override through the digital inputs. Nothing in the advertising or even the manual states that this doesn't work through "linkage control mode". You have to get to the actual binary commands section in the manual where there's a line that says "Note: All modes except Linkage mode support relay control by command.". Too late for me, I've invested 2 days getting to this point.It completely limits the purpose of the digital inputs. You also can't read the digital inputs to anything, it's just an override command.Given these limitations, and the price of the board, I am baffled by the purpose of the item. If you want a simple logic board for relay operation, just buy a much cheaper Arduino/ESP32 or similar device and hook it up to any decent relay board for under $30USD. That will also give you much more flexibility in operation, way more logic functions, etc. and you won't have to ever be relied upon dodgy software in case the device gets flashed.Useful only if you want something on one board that does some very basic commands over Modbus RTU.
