If you were ever curious to what chalk tasted like when you were a kid, here is your answer and it's not good. I had my household each try a tiny piece and no one could tolerate it. It's the equivalent of eating clay and tastes like dirt. Maybe there is a purpose for this but I don't think eating it is ideal.

very very powdery to touch, kind of messy - probably to be expected but i didn’t anticipate that. kind of gritty but more of a clay, no bad smell though and no chemical taste
