Informative and clearly written book. Broken down by “to do’s” and “how tpo’s”

5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST READ!!

A.C. · September 25, 2025

This is an EXCELLENT read! Dives just deep enough to give all of the most crucial information needed to understand the physiology of the brain and how it reacts to healthy and unhealthy stimulants, meds, and OTC items; as well as food (optimum and less than optimum), sleep, exercise, etc, etc. Also contains action plans at the end of every chapter that aid in truly enacting positive changes in one’s life to lessen the chances of developing dementia/Alzheimers, and instead lengthen brain health and peak cognitive functioning for life. The author truly knows her subject and cares about her readers. She even took two hours out of her busy practice to come to our book club to answer any and all of our concerns and questions.A MUST READ!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great guide to better brain function

Having 1 parent and 1 grandparent who have died with dementia, I'm always interested in brain research and developments in treatment and prevention. Over the years, I have read all lot about the illness but not much helpful about avoiding it! When I saw Dr Clarke's approach in this new book, I was very encouraged! It is an easy to read and understand guide, not just about what is happening in the aging brain but what to do about it to help stave off dementia. I'm only 10 years away from the age my dad started to show signs of dementia so I am paying close attention. Each chapter has small changes I can make in my daily life and each ends with an action plan, how to recognize issues I have and then make those changes needed. I've just read the book (it is a quick read) and have already utilized a couple of the ideas on starting a new habit (a good one). Next I'm going to utilize her suggestions for clearing the pantry of products which do not promote good brain health and replacing those with ones that do! We've already changed some of the oils we use in cooking.I feel like this is an approach to changing habits and practices in small increments that I can really do and sustain! I'm looking forward to cleaning the pantry.... something I never said before! Thank heaven for doctors like Dr Clarke!

5.0 out of 5 stars A meaningful, practical and doable action plan to ensure a healthier brain

Dr. Clarke’s book is an excellent resource for anyone who wants to start taking steps now to ensure a healthier brain tomorrow. Having witnessed the devastating effects of Alzheimer’s and dementia in my own family, I’ve always been hyperaware (even paranoid) about memory loss. I used to make jokes about myself experiencing early onset dementia in my late 40s because I used to have trouble remembering things. Reading this book, and learning more about the effects of nutrition, sleep and exercise on my brain, has been life-changing. The action plan is doable and realistic. Dr. Clarke’s suggestions, based on scientific research, are things that anyone can do regardless of age or resources. The drastic improvement I have seen in just the past month regarding my ability to focus and remember, has been substantial. Please do yourself a favor and read this book. The writing is enjoyable to read to boot!

Excellent read! Each chapter builds on the next and helps you to create your own action plan to improve Brain Health.I had the nutrition down but not the exercise, stress and sleep. The book educates you on the importance of every element. I am 60 and wish I would have read Dr. Clarke's book years ago. I purchased this book for at least 10 friends and family members.

For instance I didn’t know that seed oils can actually be bad for us, eg rapeseed/canola oil or even sunflower oil. The importance of reducing sugar is very clear but also ensuring we have enough protein in our diets.
