I love 5 hour energy. Use it most days instead of coffee. I was hoping that I would really like this flavor, but the taste is just okay. I prefer some of the other flavors better. I do find purchasing them like this is a real value.

I have had a variety of energy drinks, energy shots (like this one) and other energy supplements. This is my favorite and go-to when I want clean, quick energy for events where I don't want to constantly run to the bathroom.The taste is a bitterish tropical punch, that isn't something you would want to drink a full glass of (because it is pretty tart) but it is a shot, so it doesn't focus on flavor, but effect. It isn't unpleasant, but it doesn't taste like a fruit-punch drink.The whole appeal to me besides getting the energy with such a small amount of liquid is that I can throw one in my pocket or bag, and it won't spill or leak. Then, when I need the boost, I can easily get it. Other cans and liquid caffeine aren't nearly as convenient or portable.I feel a good rush of energy and I am not jittery at all. If you are sensitive to energy supplements, I recommend you to drink half of it to assess your tolerance. If you feel like you need more after 45 minutes, you could probably finish it off. Again, it is a small amount of liquid, so just be careful if you're unsure.Overall, this is the perfect energy drink. Vitamin packed, tastes okay, a small amount of liquid, and ultra portable. The energy feels clean and lasts be a good part of the day. I would highly recommend!

I have used the standard 5-hour Energy drinks before, but had never tried the 'Extra Strength' version. So when I got the opportunity to try them out I jumped at it. I mainly use these drinks for a pre-workout boost, which is how I tested this one.The manufacturer recommends either consuming 1/2 a bottle for 'moderate energy' or a full bottle for 'maximum energy'. They also suggest no more than 2 bottles daily; consumed several hours apart. Since I was testing the benefits of use as a pre-workout energy booster, I went for the full bottle.The first thing I noted was the flavor. The name 'Tidal Twist' implies something tropical, and the first flavor I picked up was a hint of coconut, with sort of a fruit background. As with most energy drinks, the flavor is not great, but it definitely is not unpleasant.Of course the reason I was taking the energy shot was to boost my workout. Per the manufacturer each bottle (shot) contains the caffeine equivalent to a 12-oz cup of premium coffee (230 mg), in addition to an 'energy blend'. I took the shot roughly 30 minutes prior to starting my workout, which was a 50-minute stationary cycling workout followed by some light weight lifting. I definitely had an added boost to my endurance, which was measured in my average RPMs and calories burned on the ride. I also still had good energy for the weights, and there was no post-workout crash.A concern I have with any energy boosting supplement is potential stomach upset. I am happy to say I did not experience any negative side effects. One effect of note, which is mentioned by the manufacturer is potential for 'niacin flushing'. I can definitely say I did run hotter, and sweat more, during the workout after taking this energy shot. But, I did not view this as a negative so did not deduct from the product rating for it.
