I tried this with a confirmed water source that had high amounts of lead and the result of the lead test did roughly match the expected result of 800 ppm.The test is very easy to use as you just wet the swab and then rub the sub on the surface and wait for a color change.The only downside of this test would be for people who find it hard to differentiate color as it is quite difficult to differentiate between 800 ppm and 1000 ppm. However, both levels indicate high levels of lead, which should be sufficient to prompt you to seek further professional assistance with your water.

Total duds in my pack (but pack was NOT expired)Wanted to test some possible lead paint. All came back negative, but when I tested against a control, I got false negatives. I have pure lead balls for muzzleloading, lead shot for shotgun loading, and a lead block I use as a weight on my bench top.I tested several swabs against all of these lead objects, even using my knife to make a fresh clean spot on the block to ensure direct contact to unoxidized lead. Never got a positive.DO NOT TRUST unless you can verify your swabs are working on a known control.

I was honestly surprised how fast this worked—results showed up in under a minute! Just wet the swab, rub it on the surface, and check the color. I used it on old dishes and some painted stuff around the house. It’s simple, mess-free, and no weird smell. Just a heads up—it doesn't work on solid metal, but great for ceramics and plastics!

The instructions that come with this are easy to follow and the steps are very easy to use. Just get the q-tip-like tip wet and wipe it on the surface your testing. The color shows up in only a minute or so and the chart is easy to compare to determine if there's lead present. With 10 swabs in the pack, it's a great value. Handy to have around, especially if you live in an older house and want to test different paints or if you are into thrifting/antiques and want to test things before you bring them into your home.

These lead test swabs seem similar to the ones I got at the big box hardware store and they also seem to give similar results but I am not so sure I trust their accuracy.Also they seem to just pick up dirt a lot and that makes it harder to read them.Just like the ones from the big box hardware store I got all negative results.

I was really hoping that this product would work as "Quick & Accurate." Unfortunately it struggles to detect lead when using a control group such lead pellets, lead solder, swabs from a rifle barrel etc. Please do not trust the MIC reagent to detect low levels of lead in your household. : (

I got this lead test kit to test some questionable jewelry pieces. There are ten swabs in a sealed, zip top, foil-lined package. The swabs are about 3 inches in length. They are made up of a thin wooden rod with a cotton tip on one end. The package has easy to read instructions with a diagram. It’s stamped with a lot number, a manufacture date of “03-Jul-2024” and expiration date of “02-Jul-2026”.The instructions say to dip the swab in water for 2 seconds, shake off excess water, and then when it’s turned a mustard color (which happened pretty much instantly for me), rub it agains the test surface for 15 seconds. Then you compare the color of the swab to the color scale on the front of the package. When I did my test, my swab stayed yellow. I’m happy that it indicated no lead, however, I do not have anything that I’m sure has lead in it to test these with so I’m not sure if they work, or how accurate they are.This kit is easy to use and It’s quick. It didn’t seem to stain the jewelry I tested. I also got some on a plate and that wasn’t stained either. The chemical on the swab might have had an extremely faint odor, but I could not smell anything at arms length. I like that I didn’t need gloves to do the testing. I also like that it can be used to test a variety of different types of materials. If anything I have a little more peace of mind after testing my jewelry pieces. It would make me feel better if there was another review where someone had tested something where the tip turned a different color, just to know that they really work, but as of now I’m satisfied with this kit.
