When I first read about this new "tribute" album, I was initially wary. But a few of the names on here, such as the National and Toro y Moi, were ones that I liked a lot so, I figured this was worth a shot. Well, this was a definite keeper. A few tracks are so-so (thumbs down to the opening track by Miley Cyrus) but there are also some totally amazing and creative versions on this collection too, especially the tracks from artists that I have never heard of before. And such is the pleasure of collections like this one.One of my favorites is the total revamp of "Slippery People" by El Mato a Un Policia Motorizado. Very inspired. Another very cool arrangement is the version of "Life During Wartime" by DJ Tunez. Again, not what you would expect ... but what you need!But there are even more cool covers and delights such as the tracks by the Caveman, Badbadnotgood, the cover of "Take Me to the River" by Lorde, and a sizzling a final track the great "Crosseyed and Painless" by some act called Chicano Batman. Never hear of them either, but this version is wonderful.

I love the film and album of the original 84. I was so excited for this 40th anniversary re-release and Remaster. I was even more enthusiastic at the tribute to it when I heard Paramore doing "Burning Down The House". The problem was the 1st track was the biggest musical abomination that is Miley Cyrus attempting "Psycho Killer". The rest of the album is pretty rock solid with the other groups trying to give the best live audience energy to the rest of the album but I am sorry Miley Cyrus is just the worst. If her father didn't try to make us wanna self delete in the 90s with his "Stanky, Stanky Fart" song and her Godmother wasn't Queen Dolly she would be slinging Hash-Browns "Scattered, Smothered, Covered" at your local Waffle House. How could anyone believe that deserved a Grammy. I can see why Liam stepped out.I almost wanted to Frisbee this album hearing her strangle the cat or what she calls singing. I am not saying somebody should be fired for approving that choice but it used to be you take a guy like that out back and tenderize him with a garden hose filled with play sand. Now you got your Unions.

Many songs veer very far from the originals. Did NOT enjoy the song sang all in Spanish. Or about 6 of the other songs esp Once in a Lifetime.

One of those "tribute" albums that you just want to shut off.......and then go listen to the real thing.
