After a 22 year Navy career working with computers and electronics, Darril Gibson set a goal for himself. He decided he wanted to become a full-time author and write books that help others. He authored, coauthored, or contributed to more than 40 books. One of his true joys in life was receiving emails from readers letting him know about their successes after using one of his books. Over the years, Darril earned multiple certifications, including CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, CASP, and CTT+; (ISC)2 SSCP and CISSP; Microsoft MCT, MCSA, MCSE, MCITP, MCTS, MCDST, MCAD, MCSD, and MCDST. Darril authored books on CompTIA A+, Network+, and Security+ core certifications, ISC(2) SSCP and CISSP security certifications, and multiple Microsoft certifications. He also wrote two books on success, including "You Can Do Anything: Three Simple Steps to Success for Graduates" and "7 Life Lessons: Powerful Principles for Living a Fulfilled Life."Darril Gibson was a passionate educator and author who dedicated his career to helping thousands of people earn their certifications and advance their careers. This is more of a strike against sec+, a cert I have to get for a job with nothing to do with 99% of what's covered in the book. It's sad that all of this information is generic enough to cover a vast array of topics, but not at any level of detail to glean useful information from in the field. This is a John Everyman cert, and quite boring to be honest.The book itself is well laid out, has plenty of gotcha practice questions, but by chapter 5, I'd prefer to withdraw my job off acceptance in lieu of getting my life back.1/31/2024 Amended to add: after completing the text and taking the practice exams, I would like to say that the book did a good job of preparing me for the exam and I was able to pass on the first attempt. I would recommend it to anyone that needs to prepare for the exam.

I used this book to prepare for and pass the CompTIA Security+ on my first attempt. With a software development background, topics like encryption, hashing algorithms, and a few others were already familiar, but the book still offered clear explanations, solid practice questions, and thorough exam coverage. Highly recommended for SY0-701 prep, especially when paired with hands-on practice.

This is the best book ever for Security+ exam. I took online courses along with lab, and I have 1 more security+ book written by Mike Chapple, according to data that is the best book. But jobs speaking that book looks like written by ChatGPT! Writing style is so bad! But this one is magical! I love this book. Hands down if u looking for the right book to pass the exam by first chance.

Just passed SY0-701 with an 802. While this was not my only resource, it was definitely a good one!Watched through Messer's course, then read this after. What a great way to supplement my learning! Having 2 different author perspectives and some repetition of the exam objectives really helped bring this one home.Even if you don't like to read, simply skimming this book, taking notes of the key points outlined, and utilizing the practice quizzes and pre/post exams provided makes it worth alot more than what it costs.Don't just take my advice, look at all of the other positive reviews. If you are still wondering whether or not this book is worth it, please just buy it and you will see. You won't be disappointed.

I read the entire book along with the professor messor YouTube series. I used the Comptia Security+ app on the app store for practice questions. I scored a 792 on my exam.
This helped me understand the information well enough to pass Security + (in 2024)
Nicely laid out and good explanations of concepts. It has a really nice set of self assessment questions at the end of each chapter, and these actually furthered my understanding. Easy to read, good quality paper the book feels robust. Happy with the purchase.
