Good/decent wifi car camera
I wanted to setup a front facing camera for my Tacoma and didn’t really want a permanent (and expensive) setup so I researched on wireless car backup cameras. Most wireless cams are big as they have battery packs in them and I wanted something really small to fit seamlessly on my truck’s grille.So I found this Green Yi unit and it was the right size (small form factor) and to my surprise, wireless and works with smart phones! I’ll be honest - I was skeptical about this and even thought if it was really wireless or not, but considering the price point, it was a no brainer for me (versus if I got the non wireless stuff which was over $200).Got the package and setup was a breeze (I already have a switch panel console in place so wiring was very easy). Downloaded the app (Joytrip) and switched the camera on and went into my phone’s wifi settings and selected the camera’s wifi connection and launched the app. No drama and the screen showed up just like that. Adjusted to flip vertical and horizontal as I was using it as a front camera and how I mounted it as shown in the pic required it.I’m quite happy and satisfied with it. Resolution is not 4k of course but for what my use case is, the video resolution is spot on. No issue with the range and the display is clear and no distortion. As for reliability in the long run, that we’ll see. It is rated at IP68 so that’s good water and dust proof rating. I’ll update my post after I run the camera through our camping/overlanding adventures and see how the camera holds. I did have it go through rain and so far no issues nor any interior condensation.And again, with such a low price point, am not that worried and I am actually planning to buy one or two more as backup. Worth it, in my opinion.
Trail cam meant for the Jeep
The media could not be loaded. The trail cam I wish would’ve come with my Jeep. I installed the camera on a mount with my ARB bumper, and it sits right in front of the winch. Wires connected in to my AUX4 line. All I had to do was repurpose an old iPhone, and there it is — dedicated trail cam.Resolution looks great. Only limitation is that the wireless signal comes through choppy, but aside from that I’m thrilled with the result.
No night vision
I didn't realize this doesn't work at night. But still good back up wifi
Should be wited to an accessory fuse/ circuit so it is powered only when the vehicle is on.
The camera works effectively. The picture quality is slightly delayed and not clear at times. I attribute this to the wifi connection latency. This wifi connection also affects phone data usage as phones default to any wifi connection. Because of this camera use should be limited. I installed the camera on the front of my truck to assist when I need to see the blind spot directly in front. So it does meet my needs. I do not use the parking guide lines.
Fixed: “App became unusable” now works properly
Update: “Worked just fine for 6 month and all of the sudden the app stopped working making camera unusable…” Once reported, the seller explained that it happened due to app upgrade and in few days all functionality returned and camera displays correctly
Inconsistent communication with the app.
3+ hours to install because I had to remove the front grille (full size truck). Worked on/off during installation. WIFI connection was hit or miss. Last night the camera is connected WIFI, but the app doesn't see it. Stop/start/restart and the app wouldn't connect to the camera. Fairly new Iphone max. Camera mounted in front so only about 6 feet from my phone. Again the camera is showing connected via WIFI. THE APP DOES NOT ALLOW YOU TO MOVE THE LINES LIKE IN THE VIDEO. Video also shows HEY SIRI START JOYTRIP AND IT JUST WORKS. DOESN'T WORK THAT SMOOTH. The wires are super thin. Maybe being in the front of the car the engine interferes with signal?? Maybe would be fine in the back of the car. I'm wired from the camera to negative battery and fuse tap into 10amp fuse. Did not use the USB cable. Doesn't seem to be a way to ask the seller questions. At least here in the comments.
This worked good for what I needed
I used this in the grill of a Jeep for a front camera. The video feed is a bit glitchy however the final fit is really nice
