As a straight cocktail drink, I found the clamato to be 'okay', but not great. It tastes mostly like a tomato soup with the clam broth mimicking an almost celery type flavor. What really caught me though was the salty taste. It's not bad, but the super salt of 700mg per small can was a lot.This could actually be used for cooking and would add some nice 'clammy' flavor to a marinara or spaghetti sauce. If using as a cocktail, for me it needs to be neutralized or watered down some with other ingredients.

Growing up I always remember my mom drinking what was back then called “Lord Motts” Clamato at lunchtime. The Lord part has dropped, but Motts still makes this drink.The 7.5 ounce cans are really made for bar tending, but they are also the perfect amount for my mom to once again drink her favorite lunchtime beverage. While she says it's a little more watery than she remembers it, she said that it it still has that same great taste. It's hard to please mom. But Motts has done it again all of these years later. She says its the perfect amount of tomato juice, clam flavoring, and spice – delicious! Mom has finished all twelve cans of the Clamato and has brought back memories in the process. She still wants more!

Clamato is one of my go-to brands for homemade Bloody Mary’s and the 7.5oz size is perfect for a large glass. It has a bolder and richer flavor than standard tomato juice so it makes my Bloody Mary’s more exciting and delicious. I add other ingredients and spices as well, but Clamato makes for a good base. It has a nice sweet and slightly salty flavor. It doesn’t taste like clam juice, if you’re worried about that!I haven’t used Clamato for any recipes other than Bloody Mary’s, but I have drank it out of the can on its own and it’s delicious that way too. I’d recommend it to anyone who enjoys Bloody Mary’s and wants a bit more flavor compared to tomato juice and v8.

I was a little nervous to try tomato juice with clam broth in it for fear that it would have a fishy taste, but surprisingly I didn't get that at all. It just had a very smooth tomatoey taste, with a very salty after tone. I believe these should mostly be used as mixers for cocktails, i.e. Bloody Mary, but I liked it enough to just drink it alone. I did find that these are a popular drink mix in Mexico where it is combined with beer and some more spices. I will have to give that a try once I know what spices to add to the combination. Each can has a fairly high sodium content, so just be wary of that. Bottoms up!
