I'm in my late 40's and hoping to preserve an athletic lifestyle through weight training in spite of arthritis. I've used it as a post-workout drink and had less joint and muscle discomfort at night when I notice it most and my muscles actually were less fatigued when I lifted multiple days in a row, compared to weeks prior. I went with the caramel latte flavor and for a powder mixed with water, it seriously tastes like a shake, not chalky or grainy like protein powders. I have to hide it in the pantry so my kids don't use it up for snacks, no joke.
4.0 out of 5 stars I don't dislike it, but I don't love it
What a world, you can have a pre-workout drink, a workout drink, and post-workout drink. Note this is a post-workout one, not that it doesn't do other good things, but it really is balanced around that (per label and my nutritionist friend). So, you just left the gym, time for a nice cool glass of...iced caramel latte. I don't hate this flavor choice, my one hangup is that it is caffeinated, and I workout later in the day. But it is very low caffeine, so there is that. My first piece of advice, FOLLOW THE MIXING DIRECTIONS. I am usually trying to get a lot of water in after a workout, but if you water this down, it's pretty gross. Mixed correctly, the flavor is all right, and props for using cane sugar instead of some artifical sweetner or monkfruit or stevia. However, it is still pretty gritty, and I have mixed this until it just can't be mixed no more and you can't get it totally smooth. As for the actually effect, I can't say I enormously notice it versus my usual routine. Maybe I am just doing a pretty good post-workout thing already (a smoothie which also has a good carb/protein ratio and antioxidants), so it might be more if you are just like, water/gatorade or something.Really, it doesn't taste bad, though it is gritty. It does have caffeine, which doesn't strike me as beneficial for anyone post-workout and I think most of us workout later in the day, but I suppose if you are a get up and run before work person, a caffeinated, coffee flavor recovery drink could be perfect. Plus, in my book someone who does that is already a bit of a masochist, so the slight sensation of drinking sand might be a plus!
3.0 out of 5 stars It Has a Lot of Potential
This product promises to be a great supplement, but when they improve it. For example, It is labeled as Endurance Training Fuel - High Carbohydrate. If you notice in the picture I attached, 27.5 grams out of the total 28.5 grams of carbohydrates come from Sugar! And the main ingredient of this mix is Cane Sugar. The Label has instructions in case of Accidental Overload of this "Freak Shake Fuel". The marketing is commendable but I didn't see an increase in my endurance, not even compared to the one I get from a cup of coffee, which by the way, I cup of coffee has 95mg of caffeine and this product only has 35mg.Regarding the flavor, it is called Caramel Latte Naturally Flavored. I guess the Caramel flavor comes from the 27.5 grams of added sugar. But no significant or enjoyable Caramel Latte flavor. I even mixed it with real coffee to give it a different perspective, but Nada. It ended up downgrading a nice cup of black coffee. In future versions when the flavor and formula are improved to live up to the marketing name "Freak Shake Fuel Caramel Latte Naturally Flavored", this product will have the potential to change the industry and become a top seller.
1.0 out of 5 stars Disgusting
I tried everything I could. I mixed it with water, then milk. I tried to make a protein pudding. I just can't stand this stuff. Didn't mix well with a spoon, but a wire whisk got rid of the clumps. The smell is like coffee mixed with something medicinal. And the taste just makes me cringe, like sweet horror. I can't even taste any caramel. Avoid this.
5.0 out of 5 stars Yummy recovery shake
This recovery shake was different than I expected and I like that it is not just a protein shake but also has electrolytes and carbs. I feel stronger after drinking this and sometimes when I skip a meal I drink this and it is very fulfilling. I am enjoying the flavor, the caramel latte is the perfect amount of sweet and coffee. I feel like the value is pretty good for the quality of the shake, and get quite a few servings from this shake. Overall I am happy with this shake, and feel like I have found a new and yummy recovery drink.
