Review:
5.0 out of 5 stars The automatic features are the magic
This is our first espresso machine, and we have had it about 2 months. I am really happy that we went with this model. Since purchasing, I have watched friends/family members use their machines, and I can definitely tell that ours is easier and makes less of a mess. The automatic feature for grinding beans (amount) and the automatic tamper which is easy and clean I think are two great features. It makes an excellent espresso without all the fuss that others go through - it's perfect for first-time users. Although the price point is high, I can tell it is a high-quality and durable machine...and we aren't heading to Starbucks every morning anymore either. We are extremely happy with the purchase.
5.0 out of 5 stars Great Espresso Machine
I absolutely love my coffee. I don't know how people survived before they learned to roast coffee beans and brew their morning cup.My previous fully automatic machine died, repair was $700+ and they no longer had electronic parts. I had to get another machine and quickly. I was a grizzly bear without my coffee! I selected the Barista Express Impress. (Couldn't they find a better name?)As far as this machine, it is more difficult than making drip coffee in your Keurig. It is designed to give you the tools to make the best coffee that you ever had. However, you need to learn how to use it. It takes a lot of time to master because you have control of parameters I did not know existed. The machine has a nice set of tools for maintenance and daily use. The tool tray attaches to the rear of the drip tray and is easily reached by pulling out the drip tray. The machine senses how much coffee to grind and automatically adjusts to grind the correct amount of beans. On several occasions, the beans stuck in the grinder, so I had to manually grind to get the correct level. No big deal but it mess up the level of beans to grind and it takes several cups of coffee to get it right again. I think that is why there are a lot of complaints about the grind level changing. I have learned to "bump" the bean hopper to free the beans before there are problems. If you listen, you can hear the grinder start to run free. I think Breville needs to redesign the hopper so beans flow freely. That is the only real criticism I have found. There are some things you need to know. First off, the beans you choose are extremely important. They affect the coffee more than anything else. Second, you control the coffee grind. You get to choose exactly how fine you grind. That is a major factor in making coffee. Third, you get to control the brewing temperature. I haven't figured out how yet, but I am happy with the brew as it is.When I make a latte, I use the microwave oven to heat the milk. If you want latte art, you will need to use the milk frother. I tried it a few times and it works well. There is a lot to clean, so I don't use it.There are a few problems. My machine would only grind as I was holding the grind button. I unplugged the machine and it worked correctly when I plugged it back in. The machine stopped brewing. The pump would run with a noise that sounded like the machine would explode. When I turned the machine around to get the serial number (it was not on the back like Support told me--I think it is on the machine underside), I realized that I had run out of water! There is no water low sensor, so it is easy for the machine to run dry. Since a dry pump will fail very quickly, this is a major oversight. The machine needs to be descaled regularly, especially if you live in a hard water area. Cleaning supplies are too expensive so I buy citric acid in bulk and generic cleaning tablets. Both work well. My water used to come from a reverse osmosis filter but I no longer have that luxury. I think I need to start buying water from one of those water stores that are popping up all over.On the whole, the machine makes an excellent cup but it takes knowledge and time to learn.
5.0 out of 5 stars Cafe-Quality Espresso and/or Lattes at Home
I’ve always loved coffee, but the Breville Barista Express Impress has completely elevated my morning routine. The machine looks sleek on the counter, and once you get familiar with it, it’s easy to use.The built-in grinder is a huge plus...you can dial in the grind size for your beans, and the assisted tamping system makes it almost foolproof. The pressure gauge helps ensure consistent shots, and the steam wand steams milk beautifully for lattes and cappuccinos. There is a learning curve at first (figuring out grind settings, dose, and timing), but once dialed in, the results are rich, smooth, and honestly better than most coffee shops. Cleanup is straightforward, though it does take a little counter space.Overall, this machine is perfect for anyone who wants quality espresso or lattes at home without spending coffee shop prices every day. It’s an investment, but it pays off quickly in taste, convenience, and sheer morning coffee joy.
5.0 out of 5 stars Why Did I Wait So Long??
If you are considering this machine, hesitating or wavering because of the price tag like I was, STOP WAITING AND GET IT NOW! I can't say enough how much I love this machine, how easy it is to use/clean, how great my lattes are. Coming from a Mr. Coffee Cafe Barista machine, I really debated if it was worth it to level up and get a "big girl coffee machine." IT IS! I am honestly shocked at how much better my coffees are now. I am not a pro and still learning, but it is easy to make a latte, and pretty quick too (3 minutes start to finish now after a week of ownership). You might be thinking that the amount of "all caps" and exclamation points in this review are the result of being overly-caffeinated (and you're probably not wrong), but I can assure you this glowing review is mostly because I love this so much that I want to help others see the light! So if you are like I was, a little nervous and on the fence, hop off that fence and buy this bad boy! You will be very glad you did. Happy caffeination!
1.0 out of 5 stars Motor is too weak to grind beans
I've had my OG Barista Express for 5 years, but it started to show it's age after daily use so I decided to buy this one as a replacement. I'd run into issues with the previous one having issues finely grinding light roast / stale beans, but it was always resolved by turning the grind to "coarse" to get the beans through before turning it back down to the desired granularity. The motor on this one, however, is unimaginably weak to the point where I can't even get it to grind dark roast beans roasted less than a week ago on the "coarse" setting and with the burrs configured to a 6. I wasted so many very nice beans trying to get this thing to work.Additionally, the burr itself wasn't properly seated out-of-the-box. The wire that holds the configured setting in place (e.g., a 5) wasn't actually fully secured in the hole so the burr was slipping while trying to grind. Resolving this didn't address the aforementioned issues though
Very consistent when it's dialed in
The media could not be loaded. We purchased this after our previous Delonghi machine sprang a leak and watching countless reviews.Embedded grinder is great, can be removed to be cleaned too which is an added benefit a lot of other machines don't have.Once you dial in the grind settings, it really does consistently make a great shot of espresso. As you can see in the video, it dosed a little less than required and subsequently added a bit to make the perfect amount. The embedded tamping system is amazing too, as someone who previously made a mess, this is really one of the benefits I didn't think of before using this. The coffee is amazing and generally pretty consistent, but highly bean dependant so dialing in your roast is very important. In addition, the support on this machine is wild. You can buy every part, about a million third party parts, and there are forums with thousands of people who have this machine for any troubleshooting or dialing in.
El café, básico e indispensable cada día 😃
The media could not be loaded.
Works great
Love this machine. Works great and easy to use.
Love this machine!
Both my wife and I found operating this machine to be pretty straight forward. I did find some of the YouTube videos on grinding of the coffee beans to be slightly confusing compared to the instructions in the manual. I considered changing the setting in the internal (burr) grind mechanism, but decided to leave it and stay with the setting recommended in the owner's manual. It turned out to be a good decision. Since having had the machine now for approx 6 weeks, we've tried different beans and have narrowed it down to one brand that our friends initially recommended.I personally love the coffee produced by this machine. Whether its espresso, or Americana coffee, or caffe latte, it all tastes great to me.I love the construction of this machine. It feels solid and built to last. We opted for the black and we're glad we did. It matches the decor in our kitchen and is easy to clean.I would highly recommend this machine.
