This chain with carabiners on each end works really well. I clipped it to a hook on the side of the house, and the other end went on the gate. I added a second carabiner on the gate and clipped this chain to that one so it would be easier for us to unlatch it if needed, but it's still very secure, and it's not easy for anyone to accidentally leave the gate open.

The chain I got looks like the one pictured. It does measure 20" and when you add the carabiners you get a total length of 23". I'm not so sure about the quality of the stainless used. It is weakly attracted by a regular magnet and a rare earth magnet has a fair amount of attraction. It may end up rusting down the road, but we shall see.

Nice heavy chains and carabiner, I have 2 very large dogs that have separation anxiety and tear up my house when ever I leave, I mounted these to the floor so they can't destroy anything else and they work great. I do suggest buying swivels
