I have 13" of space behind the machine which is plenty of room for the mats. Set up is a breeze. The starter bundle is great because you can get some practice and use some of the vinyl to learn some of the beginner projects.Cricut design space makes it very easy to learn and quickly get the feel of using the machine. They have tons of designs and they walk you through each one. I would say I have a lot to learn and try but so farI am very happy with this machine.
