I’ll be honest. I had no idea what to expect when I ordered these. Certainly had no idea how to prepare them. These Pani Puri Coins have no instructions on how to cook them. The label says they are "Uncooked" and "Microwaveable" so I was on my own.A quick Google search and some YouTube videos helped a bunch. Apparently this is a popular Indian dish that calls for frying the Pani Puri coins in hot oil so they puff up into hollow crunchy balls. You then punch a small hole in the ball and stuff with a variety of things. A mashed potato-like mixture seemed pretty popular; but the real star of this dish is a green liquid mix that the balls are dipped in and then popped in your mouth. There are mixes available on Bolo for the filling and for the green sauce. I, of course, had neither. I followed one of the YouTube videos and put about 8 Pani Puri coins in a bowl and coated them with a vegetable oil. I put them in my preheated Air Fryer (370°F) for just a couple of minutes. I heard them bouncing around in the Air Fryer so I opened the drawer and they were all puffed up into perfect little golden balls! I was amazed!I didn’t have the traditional fillings or sauce, so I just dusted some with powdered sugar and some I drizzled with honey. Delicious!I will add that, for some unexplained reason, one coin in each batch I made did not puff up to the size of the others. That happened in each of the 4 batches I cooked; always had a dud….strange. Also, I searched many videos and never found any that made these in the microwave. They turned out so well (and fast) in the Air Fryer, I can’t imagine them coming out better, or faster in the microwave. If you’re feeling adventurous and want to try something new, give these TAJ Pani Puri Coins a try.

Cooked them at 375-400, fried until lightly dark golden and they were amazing. The protein content in these is through the roof too, so that's a plus! We'll definitely order again!

One of the main things that drew me to these pani puri coins was the "microwaveable" part. We don't typically fry things so the idea of being able to microwave these was great. After probably 30 minutes of trial and error (and looking up multiple ways to microwave them) we had maybe a 30-40% success rate with these. Most of them just didn't puff up. It didn't matter if you had two coins on a plate or ten - at least half stayed mostly flat. The ones that did puff up tasted great but it felt terrible wasting so many. I may try to fry these to see if they do better that way, but I would certainly not get these if you plan to microwave them.

These are an easy to make, and fun snack, great addition to almost any meal.They puff up in the microwave in seconds, and provide a nice, crispy texture to pretty much anything you eat them with.They do take a few tries to get them just right if you've never cooked them before, but with a light coat of oil, they puff up perfectly, and have a great flavor and texture.Easily one of our new favorite snacks, pairing with a variety of dips and proteins.
