Birch & Meadow trehalose powder is now my "go to" choice. This brand seems to be good quality, it's reasonably priced, and I like that it comes in a firm container with a tight closing lid vs a bag. The powder was fine but didn't poof all over when the canister was opened. I couldn't tell the difference in taste between this and several different brands- both cheaper and more expensive. That to me is a plus since I am not a chemist and can't test the purity. Unless it becomes a lot more expensive, I will purchase this again.

I have experienced the same thing described in an April review. A strange chemical/gas like smell came out of the container. I tasted a small amount and no sweetness whatsoever. Perhaps exposure to heat with shipping? This is not a returnable item, so you might want to think twice before purchase.

I use a tablespoon or two of this every day in my tea and coffee. Not super sweet, which I love

I just opened the container of this 10 minutes ago. OMG, the smell hit me as soon as I broke the seal! It was a horrible odor sort of like melting plastic and furniture varnish combined. No exaggeration. It literally permeated my kitchen in seconds! I don’t know what this stuff is, but it sure isn't trehalose. I've been using trehalose for a while now, and the only smell of other brands is either totally neutral or very mildly sweet. I'm pretty sure that the stench of this stuff alone could strip paint. I'm honestly afraid it might be toxic.Please think twice on this brand. Quality is nil. Quality Control, who knows?One star only because there's no option for "0".

I received “Birch & Meadow Trehalose Powder, 1.3 lb, Sugar Substitute, Baking & Drinks, Alternative Sweetener.” The product came in a plastic container with a screw-on lid. The container did not look completely full, but it had an inner seal that required scissors to remove. The product has a slightly sparkly, granular appearance that looks quite similar to sugar. Unlike some sugar substitutes, this product is not calorie free. It has 20 calories per 5 gram serving. It has a mellow, sweet taste. The texture is halfway between inulin and erythritol, with a little bit of that floaty, cloudy, melt-in-your-mouth texture like inulin, but a little more crystalline and chunky like erythritol. I’m very happy with this sugar substitute.
